Chapter 62f:
Endings of a Legend
The Dark Fiend of the Inferno walked down the haunted streets of Trioustan. He was looking for the mutants, their ally to be in the next conflict against the Demon Army and their general Efreet.
He turned the corner and saw a sight that absolutely terrified him. Corpses! Human corpses! Dozens of them. But on in particular caught his eye and filled his soul with dread.
It was a girl in a Priestess' robe.
"Is that?" Vince shakingly whispered to himself. "No, it can't be."
He ran to the girl, hoping that what he feared wasn't true, but the staff the girl clutched in her hands was unmistakeable.
He saw her face. Sorrow and anger flooded his heart simultaneously.
"Stephanie," he whispered as a tear came down his face, or at least it would have if his Dark Fiend body were equipped with tear glands. "Steph, no. You can't be dead. You can't be."
Stephanie lay on the floor, pinned to the asphault floor by a saber through the chest. Not just any saber. It was made from red metal.
"Mardonius," Vince growled. "I'll kill you for this."
Carefully, Vince brushed aside the hair that blocked Stephanie's face. Even though she was dead, her face was calm and serene, as though she were only sleeping.
Vince heard something come down the street. The demons had come back to finish what they started. But Vince didn't look at them. He didn't care anymore. Crying on the inside, Vince put his arms around Stephanie's body and held her close.
Then, something amazing happened.
Stephanie's body began glowing with a white light. It was Holy energy in its purest form. But unlike other Holy spells, this Holy energy didn't hurt Vince. No, it strengthened him. Vince's body burst into flames, but it wasn't just any flame. It was the White Flame.
"I understand now," the Dark Fiend said as the horde of demons surrounded him and closed in on him. "I know now what I have to do."
Carefully laying Stephanie back on the floor, Vince stood up. He was completely surrounded by the demons now. There would be no escape.
All at once, the nearest demons leapt at him, but Vince suddenly floated into the sky. Then, there was a fiery explosion, and a shockwave of white flame expanded until it had engulfed the whole city.

Megan Zeng, Vince's mother, stood on the street, facing a demon's corpse. It was large and muscular and displayed two long, curved horns.
"Efreet's dead," Megan announced. "Efreet and the entire Demon Army. Vince has really done it this time."
"Yes, but, Vince is gone, too," Channis replied.
"I know," Megan replied. "It's unfortunate, but at least his death was meaningful. Vince has saved us all, and we will forever remember him."
