Happy Halloween!
On this day:
In 2003:
- I scare the shit out of Jessica Vu because "I looked real".
- While playing BS with the fencers, I start saying Bullshit instead, and everyone else follows suit, including Christina who never swears and was shocked by the words coming out of her own mouth.
In 2002:
- Amy dressed up as "Amy". Stephanie dressed up "Stephanie". Yily dressed up as "a student".
- Stephanie Huang makes her first appearance in my journal.
- Yily Liu makes her first appearance in my journal.
- Candy Hand!
Not much happened today...
Lunch at Xroads...

CS162 Lecture...
Fencing... Abdul says we should give the beginners another 2 or 3 weeks before I start recruiting for saber. Olek, on the other hand, took up the saber today.

Sunday, October 30, 2005--Today is another one of them boring Sundays. Not much happened, except homework, an Uber run in Diablo II, and for once, MLB isn't ruining my Sunday evenings.
On this day:
In 2004: UCSC Fencing Tourney! I fight like a demon. (I'm still looking for that fighting spirit.)

UCSC Fencing Tournament!
I was plagued by two problems today:
- Overconfidence when I'm about to win (causing me to fence badly and lose)
- Inability to adapt to the short bouts
I still had fun though. Highlights include:
- Cal sweeps Novice Foil
- Michael (lefty) takes first place
- Daniel takes second place
- Andrew (aka, Nunchuck Boy), after running out of energy against Michael, makes a comeback by shutting out the Cal Poly fencer in the Bronze bout (10-0!) and wins third place
- How the fuck to I injure my off-arm?
- Somebody cut through my pants. Apparently, they were going after my wallet.
- Pop Tarts galore! Good thing I came prepared.
On this day:
In 2002:
- "Warning! Open Trench." "Do you see an open trench around here?"
- Ihui Wu makes her first appearance on my journal.
- "The Camel is our god, and we have to bring lunch to feed the Camel."
I wonder if she's going to keep her promise...

That's all the time we have for today. Good Night, y'all!
Friday, October 28, 2005 - Addendum--More FF3 spoilers!
*3*
Apparently, Goldor has a crystal. Also, apparently his name is Goldor because he has a lot of gold (kind of like Goldmember, but not as funny). Anyways, I fought my way through his mansion, and he was waiting for me at the end, guarding his crystal, so he fought me. After defeating me, he said he'd rather no one have the crystal than to give it to me, so he shattered it. D'oh! Fortunately, he dropped the key to the chain, so I unchained my airship and flew away. Woohoo!
So I started exploring the world. However, as I flew over Salonia Castle, my airship (the Enterprise) got shot down. D'oh!
Apparently, the King of Salonia has gone crazy and he's pitted half his army against the other half, and the half that loses will be executed. Also, as I was exploring around Salonia, some dudes kept telling me that only Dragoons can defeat the mythical bird Garuda. Hmm... is this a hint of some sort?
Anyways, as I entered a pub, Prince Allus was being attacked by some thugs, so I rescued him, and he joined my party. Then, in other places in town, some old men, seeing that I had Allus in my party, gave me some Dragon Armor and a starter set of spears. Woohoo! It was then that I converted Alan from Knight to Dragoon ('cause, you know, Dragoons are awesome). So then I climbed the Dragon Tower and got four full sets of Dragoon gear. Woohoo! (Except, you know, I only have 2 physical fighters so chances are, I'll only need 2 sets.
So at Allus's request, I take him to Salonia Castle, where we are greeted and told that we will meet with the king first thing in the morning. However, the King attacks Allus with a knife in his sleep, commanded by Gigames. However, instead of stabbing his son, the King refuses to be controlled and stabs himself. We then fight Gigames, who turns out to be Garuda. Interestingly enough, I got my ass kicked the first time, so I decided to take the townspeoples' advice and changed everyone (even the casters) into Dragoons, and then I just jumped Garuda to death.
Then, as my reward, Allus lets me have the airship Nautilus, which is actually just a blimp. Since the Nautilus is super fast, I can use it to fly through the windy mountain pass in the continent of Dalug to the south, so I do that. At the end, I run into a house and am about to get attacked my Moogles when suddenly, Dorga appears and recognizes me as the light warriors. He tells me a story about Zande. Apparently, Zande was dissatisfied with the Archmage Noah's gift and decided to destroy the world. He took control of the Earth Crystal and used it to cause earthquakes everywhere. Apparently, he's also trying to summon the Darkness into the world. (Rather than a Flood of Light, now we're gonna have a Flood of Darkness.) So Dorga joins my party and tells me to take him to his Magic Circle. Unfortunately, it's another one of them Mini dungeons. D'oh! Fortunately, it was easy. At his Magic Circle, he enchants my Nautilus to allow it to go underwater and tells me to go to the Temple of Time (which has sunk underwater) to retrieve Noah's Lute so that we can call to Unne in the Dream World. Then, Dorga disappeared into another dimension so he could fetch the Eureka Key, which would allow me to gain access to some sealed weapons. Awesome!
So now I leave off, about to enter the Temple of Time.
Bonus pic.*3*
Anyways, Good Night, for reals this time!
Friday, October 28, 2005--I decided I deserved a break after working on CS162, so I skipped
EE125 Discussion...
On this day:
In 2004:
- My watch stops.
- Minjung gives out too much Halloween candy.
So I decided to play FF3...
*3*
So last we left off, I was about to fly off the floating continent... so today, I did that. (Man, that's a really tiny floating continent compared to the rest of the map.) But the whole world is water! D'oh!
After flying around a bit, I found the Water Temple and the Water Cave, but they were sealed off, something about only the Maiden of Water, Elia, being able to pass.
After exploring some more, I found a shipwreck where there was an old man who had found a girl who was recovering from wounds in a bed. The old man said that there was an earthquake, and the Water Crystal became cursed, turning everyone into stone and submerging them underwater. After giving the girl a potion, she woke up. It turns out that she's Elia, and that she needs my help restoring the Water Crystal.
So I went to the Water Temple (to get a crystal shard), and then to the Water Cave, where I fought my way to the bottom. However, right when she restored the Crystal, Kraken showed up and fired a cursed arrow. Elia pushed me out of the way and took the arrow herself and died. Apparently, Kraken had been sent by Zande to destroy the crystal. However, I fought and destroyed Kraken, and the world was restored to normal.
Next thing I know, I wake up in a town called Amur and my ship is chained to the shore. D'oh! Anyways, after talking around, this dude named Goldor chained up my ship because he thought we were the Dark Warriors or some shit like that. So then, I have to go meet with him to get him to unchain my ship. However, he lives in a mansion far far to the south, and there's a bottomless swamp that I have to cross. Now, I can cross the bottomless swamp with the Floating Shoes, but some lady named Delila in the sewers has them. So I got this dude named Jiru to unlock the sewers so that I could go to the sewers and get the Floating Shoes from her.
Next stop, Goldor's mansion!*3*
And, um, that's about it.

Anyways, I worked on my CS162 project and finished half of the work that was supposed to be assigned to me.
Afterwards, I decided to take a break by playing FF3!
*3*
Last we left off, I was about to enter the Dwarven Cave. (Lali-ho!) It seems as though some dude named Guzco (wasn't that the same dude in FFTA?) was trying to steal the two Dwarf Horns, but succeeded only in getting one of them, but he fled into the Underground Lake, so I went to chase him down. After defeating him, I went to return the Horn to the altar, but it turns out Guzco was still alive! (I wondered what that little line following me around was.) As I was about to place the Horn back on the altar, Guzco reappears and steals both of them, then runs off to the Flame Cave (because apparently, you need the Dwarf Horns to enter the Flame Cave).
Again, I chase him down and go all the way to the Crystal Room, where Guzco has used the power of the Fire Crystal to transform himself into Salamander, which I have to fight. (It was a pretty tough cookie, but I managed to beat him.) Then, I gained the power of the Fire Crystal, which included a Knight upgrade for my Fighter.
As I returned to the Dwarf Cave to celebrate, some dude from Tokkle shows up and tells me that Hyne is going to burn down Tokkle and that I have to stop him. (He died immediately afterwards.) So I go to Tokkle, only to be immediately captured by Hyne's men and taken to Hyne's Castle (which apparently, used to be the Elder Tree, but Hyne transformed it into a castle). I fight my way through Hyne's Castle to confront Hyne himself and defeat him. He was easy once I decided to use a scholar to track his weakness, because:
#1, Hyne likes to change his weakness using Wall Change a la FF6.
#2, physical attacks do jack shit against Hyne.
So anyways, I kill Hyne, and that's that--the Elder Tree returned to normal and all the people from Tokkle and Argass get to go home.
I vaguely remember Desh saying that the king of Argass knows about Airships, so I went to Argass, where the king gave me the Time Gear, aka, the Perpetual Engine, and told me to deliver it to Cid. I did, and Cid made me an Airship out of the Enterprise. (Yay!) Now, I get to fly off this floating continent.*3*
Well, now I'm gonna get back to work in CS162.

On this day:
In 2004:
- Kim is easily amused.
- Tracy needs to start resisting.
In 2003: Demons v2 is conceived.
Anyways, I spent most of my evening playing FF3.
*3*
Where we last left off--I was climbing up a mountain to encounter a dragon. Well, it turns out that dragon was Bahamut. He kidnapped me and dropped me in his nest (which, apparently, was filled with chocobos?), and I met a dude named Desh. Then, Bahamut attacked, and while he wasn't very powerful, apparently, he's impossible to kill, so I had to run.
That was when I fell into this place, and there was a town full of Mini'ed people. (I had
to Mini myself in order to find it, and then I had to go through this really annoying Mini tunnel. It sucks being Mini'ed, because physical attacks just plain suck. However, it seems this was the basis for the "Tiny Mages" in FF4.
Then, I ran into some pirates (for some reason, they were translated as "Vikings") who offered me their ship, the Enterprise, for free. Drawback? The bay that the ship was being kept was being blocked by an unkillable serpent named Nepto. So I had to go to the Nepto Shrine, only to find another Mini dungeon (grr), at the end of which I found that a rat had taken the gem that keeps Nepto's sanity (apparently, it was dislodged during an earthquake), so I had to kill the rat to restore Nepto's sanity. Then, finally, I had my own ship. Yay!
So I spent a few minutes wandering the world. Here's a tree being moved around by demons. (Apparently, it's the elder tree--I found this out after travelling to the Living Forest, only to discover that I can't do anything about it at this time. Another interesting sight is the edge of the world. Apparently, (as I was informed in the Ancient's Village), we live on a floating continent.
There was also an interesting story about how years ago, there was a "Flood of Light", where the Light was becoming too powerful and too pervasive in technology and everything was being corrupted by the Light. So the Darkness chose 4 Dark Warriors who fought back the Light and sealed it away. How amusing. Apparently, in the history of this game, Darkness and Light alternate being the good guys.
This was also when I discovered that I can dual-wield for free in this game, thereby doubling the power of my warrior. w00t!
Anyways, I finally went to the Tower of Owen (after receiving the Toad spell from the Gurgans, which apparently is a play on Gorgons). At first, I was disappointed to discover that I needed to Toad myself in order to pass a certain area (by diving into the water as toads), but then, after getting through the water, I was able to turn myself back. Hurray! Then, I fought my way up the tower. Apparently, the Tower of Owen is what was keeping the Floating Continent afloat, and Medusa (at the orders of "Sir Zande") was planning on destroying the tower in order to drop it onto the main world. Fortunately, we defeated her (and easily), but the damage had been done. Fortunately, (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), Desh sacrificed himself to fix the Tower's central reactor. In the process, he also opened up a passageway that allowed me to go to the outer sea.
Next stop: Dwarven Cave...

Highlight of the Game: Marshawn Lynch passes to Joe Ayoob for a touchdown!
Lowlight of the Game: Joe Ayoob throws, like, 30 incomplete passes, many of which were in the 4th quarter when we really needed them.
We lost 20-23. That kinda sucked. We need a better quarterback.

Happy Birthday Vivian P!
On this day:
In 2004: Kim saves a seat for me.
Anyways, I went to McLaughlin today (where the CoE Student Affairs Office is) to schedule my final degree check to make sure I can graduate. Then, I went to
EE125 Discussion... where we got to play with the Adept robot. It was amusing. We were supposed to also cover Jacobians, but we spent 40 out of the 50 minutes just playing with the robot.
Then, I went to Games of Berkeley for the
Ravnica Booster Draft!
Anyways, we had 18 people show up today, so we had to split it into two pools--one pool of 8 and one pool of 10. I was in the pool of 10.
Now, back in Kamigawa, I always forced red-black, and it worked pretty well because Kamigawa had good red and black cards. However, in Ravnica, only 4 color combinations work. I originally wanted to draft Boros, but I decided to keep my options open in case I was passed something good. Good thing, too, since the guys to my left were also drafting Boros and therefore would have cut me off.
So in the first pack, I somehow end up going Green-White. I was hoping to extend this to Green-White-Red, however, so I could get the removal and speed of the Boros. However, during the second pack, I got passed tons of black removal--2 Disembowels, Brainspoil, and a Last Gasp. (I had also passed up some black removal in favor of other good cards, so I could have had more removal if I had wanted it.) Finally, at the third pack, for my second pick, the guy to my right passes me a pack, saying "You're a very lucky man." It turned out the pack contained Dark Confidant, Disembowel, and Darkblast, 3 really good black cards. (That and, the Dark Confidant is worth, like 5 bucks.)
Anyways, it later turned out that the Dark Confidant, while generating mad card advantage, also brought down your life total really fast, so in the end, I ended up not playing it. I should have picked the Darkblast. Oh, well. (More on that later.)
Anyways, my final decklist looked like this:
6xPlains
2xSelesnya Sanctuary
5xForest
5xSwamp
Boros Recruit
3xCourier Hawk
Faith's Fetters
2xConclave Equenaut
2xSelesnya Evangel
Guardian of Vitu-Ghazi
2xTransluminant
Golgari Brownscale
Scatter the Seeds
Shambling Shell
Gaze of the Gorgon
Golgari Rotwurm
Thoughtpicker Witch
2xDisembowel
Last Gasp
Brainspoil
Notice that my deck is just solid commons. There's not a single uncommon or rare in there. (Well, other than the Dark Confidant and the Congregation at Dawn that I later pulled out of my deck.)
Other cards that I drafted: FOIL
HUNTED DRAGON!
Match 1: I played against this dude named David. I forget what kind of deck he had, but I remember game 1, I creamed him. In game 2, I was mana-screwed, so I lost. In game 3, I creamed him.
Record: 1-0
Match 2: Ralph announced that I would be playing against William, my friend who I have never beaten in a draft. He was playing a Dimir deck with blue fliers such as Belltower Sphinx and Snapping Drake and Dimir Infiltrator and Flights of Fancy, as well as a bunch of big blue walls. With so much evasion and so much defense, it made it really difficult for me to damage him while he simply flew over for the win. Then, in the second game, although I got off to the early start and knocked him down to 3 life, he managed to deck me out. It's the first time in a long time that I've been decked. I simply didn't see it coming. One moment, I was attacking with my Golgari Rotwurm. Then, he asked to count how many cards in my library, and it turned out there were 6. He then blocked with the Belltower Sphinx. "If you can force me to draw a card, then you win the game." "And all I need is two free mana." And he uses the Lurking Informant to mill the last card off my graveyard. Good game.
Record: 1-1
Then, William and I decided to play a few more games for fun. In the next game, I turn 2'd a Dark Confidant. "Dude, you're crazy." So then, I was getting cards and losing life. Unfortunately, I was also a bit lacking in mana, so the spells I was getting I had no way of casting. Finally, when I was at 9 life, William used the Lurking Informant to look at my top card. "Hmm... I attack with my Dimir Infiltrator." I think, that's odd, he hasn't attacked me the whole time this game. Why now? Oh wait... 8 life. FUCK! So I flip over the top card of my library, and there it is, the Guardian of Vitu-Ghazi.
William: Don't play that card [Dark Confidant].
Me: I get your point. Between the not being able to cast the spells I get because I'm mana screwed and the Guardian of Vitu-Ghazi, he doesn't seem quite that good.
I also decided that Congregation at Dawn was unplayable because of its GGW mana cost and decided to swap those two out for a Plains and another Conclave Equenaut, thus putting my deck in the final form you see above.
Match 3: I played this guy named Andrew, who had forced a Boros deck. Game 1, I was a little slow to begin because I had bad draws, so he got the creature advantage on me pretty fast. Fortunately, I was able to put up a decent defense in time to stabilize myself on 9 life. Unfortunately, he then played Master Warcraft, attacking with all and choosing for me to not block. I took 11 damage and died. Game 2, I got off to a much better start. MVPs of the game include Transluminants, Selesnya Evangels, Courier Hawks, and 1/1 Saproling Tokens. Incidentally, those are also the most common cards in my deck. Thoughtpicker Witch was also nice when his Wojek Embermage tried to kill off my entire Saproling Squadron with his Radiance poking ability. Fortunately, I just used the Thoughtpicker to sacrifice the target, thus countering the whole ability. Also, my plethora of black removal rendered most of his creatures useless, except for his 1/1 Boros Recruits and War-Torch Goblins, which I decided weren't worthy of wasting removal on. Game 3 was more of the same.
Record: 2-1
We voted unanimously to give the FNM Promo cards to the 1st place and a random participant. Luckily, I was that random participant and won the FNM Promo Duress.
Also, my ranking won me a booster pack, which contained a Grave-Shell Scarab and a foil Votary of the Conclave.

Anyways, I told myself I should stop skipping dinner on Wednesdays, so today, I went to Top Dog (at, like, 9pm at night) and had myself some top dogs for dinner. It was as good as I remember them.
Also, apparently,
BlueHost, the guys who host my website, are down (although by the time you read this, they will be up again). Grr...
Anyhow, Good Night!
Tuesday, October 11, 2005--
Happy Birthday Justin Kuo! and Lizzie Choi.
On this day:
In 2002:
- I give balloons to Justin for his birthday as a prank... and go bankrupt.
- I almost get run over by Tiffany Wang.
Wow, I got caught up on Journal entries so fast, anyways...
CS188 Lecture... I saw Nadia's torn up hand wrapped up in a bandage.
Me: So what happened to your hand?
Nadia: It's a funny story, really.
Me: I'm afraid to touch it.
Also, John, the TA, was substituting for Russell, because apparently, Russell was out of town.
EE125 Lecture...
CS188 Discussion...
Lunch at the GBC... I saw Lei and Rae. Hey, that rhymes!
TBP Officer Meeting... I have work to do now.
Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 5) Total: 8
Again, I say Good Night!
Monday, October 10, 2005--Apparently, it's
Columbus Day today! Happy Columbus Day! Except no one likes Columbus because of shit like he brought the white man here to the New World to slay the Native Americans, or some shit like that.
On this day:
In 2002:
- Justin the flag-bearer!
- What's the plural of Tiffany? Is it Tiffanies or Tiffanys? And while you're at it, is it Cindies or Cindys?
- I begin working on my Halloween costume.
Anyways, I spent the morning making my schedule for next year. It was
awesome.
CS170 Lecture...
Cs162 Lecture... during which I totally finished my EE125 Homework, which I had just started.
Fencing... I fenced too long practice bouts and then had a private lesson with Coach Abdul. Then, Abdul tells me I should jump rope to build up my leg strength and/or stamina. Needless to say, I was totally exhausted.
Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 1) Total: 5
Still, it was a Good Night!
Sunday, October 9, 2005--After a tasty lunch at Burger King, I went back to Berkeley and spent the
entire day working on the CS188 project. Therefore, I won't be posting much today.
Actually, that's a lie. I finished at 9pm and celebrated the rest of the day by totally slacking off until Heaven knows what hour in the morning. (More like 2:30am, if I remember, mainly because Justin and I went on another Uber hunt in
Diablo 2.
On this day:
In 2004: Cal barely loses to U$C. )=
In 2002:
- The first addendum... points to yesterday.
- Stephanie Yaung makes her first appearance in my journal.
- Lei Huang makes her first appearance in my journal.
- Nadia Shaw makes her first appearance in my journal.
- The Tiffanies (Wang and Hung) makes their first appearance in my journal.
Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 2) Total: 6
I slept, so it was a Good Night!
Saturday, October 8, 2005--Today is yet another entry that was postedon Tuesday the 11th.
On this day:
In 2003: I have lunch with XineWu, who eats one slice of pizza, a small piece of cake, a cookie, and a soda.
In 2002:
- Linda Fang makes her first appearance in my journal.
- Ke Xu makes his first appearance in my journal.
- The Shih Twins, Stacie and Stephanie, make their first appearance in my journal.
- "Oh, is it something Woytek taught you?"
- Joanna Chen makes her first appearance in my journal.
After a tasty lunch at Ariake Sushi, I spent the
entire day working on the CS188 project. Therefore, I won't be posting much today.
Except I will tell you the story that Nadia apparently tore her hand open and had to get stitches and therefore was unable to type with her right hand. Poor girl.

Long, but Good Night!
Friday, October 7, 2005--Today I woke up so that I could go have Donuts & Bagels with Tau Beta Pi. It was awesome, mainly because I like donuts. (And cute engineering girls, too!)
Then, I went to EE125 Discussion.
On this day:
In 2004: I get offered an interview with Microsoft! w00t!
In 2002: *shrig*
Ravnica Season begins!
Unfortunately, since I'd be going home today, I'd be unable to play in the inaugural booster draft. (I'll will be drafting Ravnica--more specifically, the Boros Legion--next Friday, though.) I did, however, buy the newly re-designed Fat Pack for Ravnica, which contained:
- Two card boxes (awesome--I needed more card boxes)
- The Ravnica player's guide
- A Pro Player card *cough*
- Dividers for my card boxes
- Ravnica life counter
- A fuckload of Ravnica land (it could be useful)
- 6 Ravnica boosters
- And most importantly, the Ravnica novel
Things that I will miss about the old fat pack: The 20-sided die. The die could be rolled, whereas the life counter just kind of counts life. However, the new card boxes more than make up for the lack of die. I mean, die are amusing, but card boxes get you more utility. That and, since everything in the fat pack comes
in one of those boxes, there's less garbage I have to throw out at the end of the day.
Interesting cards I got in my booster packs (you can use
Gatherer to look up cards you don't know): an Elves of Deep Shadow (this is a reprint from
The Dark), a Psychic Drain (drain library, essentially), a Chant of vitu-Ghazi (a card I'll always respect since a player that I was beating down went from 3 life to 15 life... but still ended up losing anyway), a Watchwolf (2 mana for a 3/3 with no drawback... other than being colorless), a Followed Footsteps, an Eye of the Storm, Boros and Selesnya Guildmages, a Loxodon Hierarch, a Hunter Phantasm, the
Sisters of Stone Death, and
Razia. Hell yeah!
Anyways, I now have 3 of the 8 Ravnica legends. (The Sisters, Razia, and
Tolsimir Wolfblood.) Man, this will be easier than collecting Kamigawa legends.
Anyways, so I went home and started working on the CS188 project because Nadia was stuck. Well, now she's unstuck.
Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 5) Total: 11
Anyways, I wish thee a Good Night!
Thursday, October 6, 2005--Wow, this entry was posted almost a week late--on Tuesday the 11th, in fact! Anyways...
On this day:
In 2004: "Well, you can't go wrong with Christ. Especially if your alternative is Clancy."
In 2002: I start saying Good Night on a regular basis!
CS188 Lecture...
EE125 Lecture...
Anyways, I was busy most of the day debugging my CS162 project, which was riddled with bugs. Needless to say, it was not very fun and I stayed working on bugs until 9:30 until I realized oh, shit, it's time to go fencing!
So I went fencing. Also, Vivian made her triumphant return.

Good Night! Don't let the succubi bite!
Wednesday, October 5, 2005--Again, I had trouble waking up, mainly because I went to sleep so late last night.
Also, for some reason, my hands are cold. It makes typing difficult.
On this day:
In 2004:
- I get my foot in the door with the Microsoft recruiter at the HKN Career Fair.
- Me: Aren't you hot in that sweater?
- Kim: No.
In 2002: Giant Abomination
CS162 Discussion... I showed up about 20 minutes late, unfortunately, with a bag of peanut M&M's.

My hands are still cold... Good Night!
Tuesday, October 4, 2005--I tried to wake up early but failed miserably.
On this day:
In 2004:
- Tiffany Shiao makes her first appearance in my journal. (Although there's a possible reference to her in the April 1, 2003 entry).
- Me: Apparently, the EE122 Mudterm scores are out.
- Tiffany: Yeah. What did you get?
- Me: ...I'll tell you if you promise not to tell anyone.
- Tiffany: Oh, it's okay. I did really badly, too. You don't have to tell me.
In 2002:
- Diane Ko makes her first appearance in my Journal.
- Alex Jukl makes his first appearance in my Journal.
CS188 Lecture... Nadia wasn't here (something about studying for a mudterm), which was unfortunate, because it meant I'd be unable to go over the project with her. Fortunately...
Russell: I heard that the project was a lot harder than originally anticipated. How many people would like an extension?
*everyone raises their hand*
Russell: Then it's settled. The project's deadline has been extended from Thursday to Sunday.
After lecture, I phoned Nadia with the good news.
EE125 Lecture...
CS188 Discussion... John gave us an amusing little worksheet where there was propositional logic, and we have to solve it in order to find our "seating assignments". (And by seating assignments, they were actually rather fake since the seating assignments were solely for the purpose of doing amusing propositional logic exercises.) This also inspired me to make a puzzle involving logical statements and seating arrangements (which is, um, basically what this is).
Dinner at the GBC...
TBP Officer Meeting...
HKN Candidate Meeting... I wore my TBP shirt, hehehe...
Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 5) Total: 11
Anyways, I spent the rest of the night doing CS170 Homework. Fun stuff! (not really) Anyways, Good Night!
Monday, October 3, 2005--
Happy Birthday Grace K!
Man, I shouldn't have slacked off yesterday. I had such a busy day today that it wasn't funny. Actually, it
was kind of funny.
On this day:
In 2003: The "Are you hot?" incident #2.
In 2002: "She said 'break up,' not 'break down'."
Doing EE125 homework...
CS170 Lecture...
Jordan: Who here thought the exam was too hard?
*everyone raises their hand*
Jordan: Too hard or too long?
Everyone: TOO LONG!
Jordan: Yeah, I figured as much. I gave the same length test as I did last year, except last year, it was a one-and-a-half hour test.
[It was only 1 hour this year.]
CS162 Lecture...
Fencing... Vivian once again did not come, but she promised to come on Thursday because she has a mudterms galore.
Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 6) Total: 7
So, I come back only to find a message from Nadia over AIM. Apparently, she needs help on her CS188 project. Except it's now midnight and there's no way in hell I can get in touch with her.
Anyways, then, I spent the rest of the night doing the CS162 project. Even still, it was a Good Night!
Sunday, October 2, 2005--I spent too much of today slacking off.
Anyways, the gist of the story is this: After hearing that FF3 would be remade on the Nintendo DS, I lost all faith in Square Enix's ability to remake FF3 properly, so I got the ROM and emulator (courtesy of Chao) and played that for most of the day.
*3*
Anyways, the main characters are a bunch of anonymous kids, so I decided to name them the same way as I named my FF1 characters--me, Justin, and Alan, and a girl. In this case, the girl turned out to be Vivian because... well, you know how these things work.
Anyhow, the game begins with me falling into a cave, and then I explore my way out and run into the Wind Crystal (I think it was the Wind Crystal), which grants my dudes some Jobs (yay, Job System, even though it's the original Job System, and thus, not as advanced as the FF5 Job System).
Heh... "The Crystal is shedding its light silently"
Then, in the village of Kazus and in Sasoon Castle, everyone was turned into ghosts except for some lucky dudes who were outside at the time and Princess Sara (yay, Sara) who was immune because she had the Mythril Ring. Apparently, the Flame Spirit Jinn was behind this, so I had to go and defeat Jinn in the Cave of Seals. There, I found Sara, who had ventured in to reseal Jinn with her ring, but since she's incompetent, she was trapped by the monsters. So then she joined my party as a guest. (This seems to have no bearing on the actual gameplay other than the fact that Sara is following me around on the map. Pic 1 Anyways, I defeat Jinn and everyone returns to normal. Yay!
Then, Cid, who has loaned me his airship, asks me to take him back to his home in Canaan (the promised land?), but I had to blow up the airship in order to break open a rock that was blocking my path. Pic 2
Now, I'm on a mountain with a dragon at the top. I'm not quite sure what's going on yet, but I stopped playing because I had to go to dinner.
Bonus Pic 3*3*
On this day:
In 2002: Franklin makes his first appearance in my journal.
Also, today, we went on another uber run in Diablo 2. This time, we managed to hit up all 4 uber locations, thanks to Justin's theory that you can't spawn a portal to a single location more than once per game, so we created all 4 portals in one game. Come to think of it, we should have spawned all four portals near Anya, so that we'd have a total of 5 portals on screen. (The 5th one would be to Nihlathak's Temple.)
Anyways, here are some screens:

Anyways, that's gist of my day. (Actually more like a summary, not a gist.) Sooo... Good Night!
Saturday, October 1, 2005--Cal vs Arizona!
It was a pretty awesome game. Not only did we
own Arizona, we shut them out, 28-0.
Highlights of the game included:
- Ayoob making what was probably his first long pass for a touchdown.
- During half time, the band was playing songs from different cartoons, at at one point, they played Scooby Doo, and this guy dressed as Scooby Doo and another guy (who I think was supposed to be Shaggy) were running away from this guy in a ghost outfit. Then, they pulled the ghost outfit off the guy, and it was actually a Stanfurd Tree. Then, Oski comes in the Flintstones and runs over the Stanfurd Tree repeatedly. It was awesome.
- At one point, Arizona has perfect field position to make a field goal. Instead, during 4th down, they opted to go for it. I think it was a big mistake, because they chose to risk getting a touchdown in a losing game over getting a nearly guaranteed 3 points.
Umm... I think that's the entire descriptor for my day. Oh, well. Good Night!
