April 2005

Saturday, April 30, 2005--I meant to do homework today, but instead, I ended up playing Fire Emblem. D'oh!

On this day:
In 2004: I complete my Red-Green Sliver Deck. w00t!

Anyways, at night, Kellie came over to hang out and we played Super Monkey Ball 2 on the GameCube. Now that's quality gaming. Nintendo certainly knows how to do fun.

Good Night!
Friday, April 29, 2005--E190... I did my presentation. Apparently, I had perfect timing. Booyah!

Then, I stopped off to do yet another field test of my CS150 project before heading off for home. Upon arriving, I played Fire Emblem, which is a pretty good game.

HKN Video Game Night... so I was playing Katamari Damacy. That game is awesome. Apparently, I'm a natural, too, since I just kept beating everyone in 2 player mode (well, except for the veterans... I didn't play anybody who claimed to be a veteran, though). Tanya was the only one who could consistently escape my wrath.

EE121 Lecture...
CS150 Lecture... I sat with Melody, who still thinks I ditched EE20 lecture when I actually stuck around in lecture just so I could sit with her.

Now, to work on my CS184 project.

On this day:
In 2003: BAMM... we lose in the semi-finals to Homestead... There was a seeding error, and we should have faced them in the finals, because we were by far the second best team.

I keep forgetting that Carise sometimes reads my website. I should watch what I say.

Saturday, April 24, 2005--Trip to the beach with TBP, w00t!

On this day:
In 2004:
Me: What are we playing?
Girl: We're playing Blob Tag. Since I just caught you--
Me: (not really)
Girl: --we now have to link our arms and run as one.
Me: I can do that.
Later...
Her: We need to just pick one person and try to catch them.
Me: Someone slow... no, no, NOT someone slow!

Justin: Well, I lost the first one, but I won the next three in a row, so I guess that redeems me.
Ryan: No, you still lost to a Pre-constructed deck.
Mark: Yeah, you lost to JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG JENG!

Angela Wu: What? Stop saying my name!

In 2003: I get out Infinite Slivers for the third time... and never again...

Wow, this whole entry was just a recap of last year. Yeah, apparently last year was a really amusing time. Geek Olympics, which weren't very geeky.

Oh, and Sarah logged on today again.

Saturday, April 23, 2005--I can summarize my day by saying KLT Simulation. It's for my EE121 project. Don't bother reading it if you have no math/science/engineering background because, while it's informal, it's pretty technical. I started the thing today, basically, and finished it today. Tanya will be happy.

On this day:
In 2004: I learn how to play Settlers of Catan.

Sarah T was logged on today. She has turned to the dark side. (Or would it be the light side, since I'm on the dark side.) She's now a literature major.

Currently listening to: Small Two of Pieces - Xenogears Soundtrack

Good Night!
Friday, April 22, 2005--I slept late last night, so I woke up late today. Oops. I was just in time for

E190...

Then, I visited the CS150 lab to do some more field testing of my project. Apparently, after about 15-20 minutes, it's no longer guaranteed to work. Hmmm...

Then, since Prof Kristel told us to, I went to the Calview office to see my presentation on video. I didn't know my voice sounded like that! (I kinda liked it, though.) Also, I noticed I didn't fidget around much, but I gesticulated like mad. (It's funny when viewed in fast forward.) Also, I talk too fast. I'm like an unrefined version of Garcia.

Next up, I'd be in my room and napping and slacking. This is Friday, after all, my self-proclaimed day of rest (not to be confused with Sunday, which is the Christian day of rest.)

On this day:
In 2004: I'm Heena's first victim for the Indian Dance.
In 2003:

Unless I were in a casino or a gambling room or something, that would just sound way too corny--cornier than most other pickup lines.

On this day:
In 2003:
Econ 1 Discussion...
CS184 Discussion...
EE121 Lecture...
CS150 Lecture...

Obviously a very boring day. I spent the rest of the day (if I recall) doing Econ homework and starting on the simulation I was supposed to run for EE121 (which I intend to do on Saturday).

Then, I went to an HKN meeting. It's funny how I barely know anyone from HKN anymore (other than Tracy) how sad.

Next up was fencing. Only 2 saberists showed up today (the other one was Mike), but then Erik, the makeshift saberist (who also does Epee), came and joined the fun and fenced Mike until they turned off the lights on us. I guess they're too timid to come in a manually kick us out, huh?

Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 3) Total: 5

Hmm... I wonder whatever happened to Sarah.

Oh, sorry. Good Night!
Wednesday, April 20, 2005--CS150 Discussion...
Econ 1 Discussion... Nadia was in a bad mood or some shit like that, so she never showed up to class.
E190...
(lunch)
CS184 Lecture... Ashley Eden (the TA) guest-lectured on Non-PhotoRealistic Rendering. I slept through most of the lecture, because my internal clock is screwed up.

Afterwards, I met with Tanya to discuss the EE121 project. Then, we discussed with Prof Gastpar. Apparently, I'm not suited for theory, and Tanya doesn't like to get her hands dirty with practical stuff, so there's only one viable solution: divide & conquer, yo!

Then, I went to CS150 Lab to borrow a CS150 book to do homework with the girls. Seriously, it's the only reason I ever go to CS150 Lab anymore--the girls. Isn't that ironic?

Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 2) Total: 8

Tuesday, April 19, 2005--Happy Birthday to Colleen & Tiffany Shiao & Diane Ko

Beyond that, I'm tired. And there's nothing more to say.

Friday, April 15, 2005 - Addendum--The entries for April 7 through April 14 are now up. I am caught up on entry-making. Please enjoy!

On this day:
In 2003:

Friday, April 15, 2005--The journal has been interrupted to bring you this special MTG Draft Report.

So I went drafting again, first time in a loooong time. It was fun.

Anyways, I, as always, went red-black again. This is my deck, which actually looks the same as always, 'cause I always draft this deck. I'm also too lazy to put in card links, so use Gatherer to find a card you don't know.

So here was my deck:
10xSwamps
7xMountains
Shinka, the Bloodsoaked Keep
2xBile Urchin
Nezumi Cutthroat
Ashen-Skin Zubera
Wicked Akuba
2xSkullsnatcher
Rend Spirit
Horobi's Whisper
2xGibbering Kami
Befoul
Eradicate
2xScuttling Death
Frostling
Ember-First Zubera
Glacial Ray
2xBrutal Deceiver
Torrent of Stone
Shuriken

I also rare-drafter Hisoka, Minamo Sensei, not because he's good, but because he's legendary.

According to William, all the people I played today were really good. Well, it's no surprise that my record is worse today, since instead of playing little kids, I played actual good people. Either that or I'm getting rusty. You never know. I'll have to look at my game report if this ever goes through.

Game 1: I played this dude named Danny who played blue and something else. Most of his creatures had 2 or less power, so in the first game, I held my removal too long, expecting something bigger to show up, but it never did. However, he had Shimmering Glasskites, which are a pain in the ass for red-black. Thankfully, I was able to destroy one with one of my weirder plays. First, I had a Shuriken equipped, and I threw it a the Glasskite, knowing full well that it would be countered. Then, with its shield down, I rended the Glasskite's flesh. Unfortunately, he won the first game, and I won the second, and we ran out of time for the third game, so I just offered him a draw. Record: 0-0-1

Game 2: I went up against Canhuang, who was reportedly really good. He ran a 3-color deck: blue, black, and white. It featured the Genju of the Falls and the blue and black Honden. Somehow, I managed to beat him, even though the Genju was bothering me the whole time. (Interestingly, in one of the games, when he turned his Island into a creature with his Genju to block, I eradicated his Island. Interestingly enough, he only had four islands in his deck. Thankfully, the Genju was gone for good. And I managed to win somehow. Record: 1-0-1

Game 3: I went up against Victor, and judging by his name, you should be able to guess who won. He ran a contraption that was eerily similar to Canhuang's, except in different colors. Instead he had the red Genju and the white honden. However, his also deck packed some powerful flying shit and lots of Arcane spells and a pair of Glacial Rays. That is painful. The round went to the third game. In the last few turns, he knocked me down to 1 life, but I managed to clear his board of creatures and started fighting back with my Gibbering Kamis. Then, he topdecks a Red Genju for the win. Record 1-1-1

Somehow, I still manged to open a prize booster, which contained a Patron of the Orochi and not much else.

Anyways, I hope my readers enjoy magic as much as I do.Unfortunately, I probably won't be saying much more because I only have as much to say as I do to play, and I didn't play any more this night.

Good Night!
Thursday, April 14, 2005--Today, Dwayne renders a bunch of images on his Ray Tracer (which are on display at http://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/~cs184-cw/, and takes an EE121 mudterm. I think I did pretty well considering I had no time to study. Besides, I got a 91 on Mudterm #1, so it should average out okay.

Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 5) Total: 10

And that concludes our whirlwind tour. The entries from April 7 to April 14 were written on April 16. The entry for April 15 was written on April 15. Isn't that odd?

Anyways, Good Night!
Wednesday, April 13, 2005--Today, Dwayne finishes his Ray Tracer, but decides to render his final images tomorrow in favor of sleep.

Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 4) Total: 10

Good Night!
Tuesday, April 12, 2005--CS150 Project Checkpoint #3 works flawlessly, thanks to my ingenuity.

Then, I worked on Ray Tracy.

Monday, April 11, 2005--Whirlwind tour continues as Dwayne frantically rushes to finish his Ray Tracy--I mean, Tracer.

On this day:
In 2003: I beat FF5

I had to skip fencing in favor of ray tracing. Good Night!
Sunday, April 10, 2005--I'm nearly fully recovered from my sickness while laying out the foundation of my ray tracer.

Then, I made my triumphant return to Berkeley. Good Night!
Saturday, April 9, 2005--While in the grips of sickness, I stay strong and finish Checkpoint #3 for CS150. Then, I start on the ray tracer.

On this day:
In 2004: Prof Shewchuk: Quick sort was invented by a man named Tony Hoare. Yes, that is an unfortunate last name, but what are you going to do about it?

Thursday, April 7, 2005--And now, for a whirlwind tour of my week, since I haven't been updating. unfortunately, I don't remember anything at all about what happened today, since this entry is being posted on April 16. Hehe, oops.

Wednesday, April 6, 2005--Tired... why do I have so much werk?

On this day:
In 2004:
CS150 Discussion... was cancelled since we have no homework this week.
Econ 1 Lecture...
E190 Lecture... Our presentation was awesome, if not a bit too long.
Stopped by to drop off my design at the CS150 Lab...
Lunch with Josh "WTF" Chang... prolly because he wanted to bum a free meal.
CS184 Lecture...

Anyways, I probably shouldn't waste time, but eh. I have a new pet chatbot by the name of CuteElfAliceZeng. She runs off the JAIMBot and MegaHAL engines. She learns by imitating what people say and combining it with things she know. My friends have taught her the craziest shit, so when you talk to her, keep an open mind.

Oh, and she's a lot like a parrot, so if you want her to be nice, teach her to talk nice. Please, teach her to talk nice. She has plenty of insanity in her already.

Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 2) Total: 4

Some day, I'll make my own chat bot, but for now, MegaHAL will suffice.

Good Night!
Tuesday, April 5, 2005--Since I went to bed late last night, I woke up late this morning. I missed Econ 1 Discussion, which may or may not have been important. *shrug*

EE121 Lecture...

CS150 Mudterm #2... it was trivial. I got a 59 out of 62 due to a stupid error. It was so stupid I was laughing my ass off when I got my test back. Oh well. I have no reason to complain.

CS150 Lab... Checkpoint #3 is coming along.

And I still have a tendency to waste time. Damn me!

Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 6) Total: 9

Suddenly, I'm in the mood to make my own chatbot, except it'll probably take forever! *shrug*

Good Night!
Monday, April 4, 2005--Stupid Daylight Savings Time. I tried to wake up at 7 today, but my body thought it was 6, so by the time I woke up, it was already 8, and within moments, I was half an hour late to a 1-hour
EE121 Discussion...
Econ 1 Lecture...
E190... During this class, we had to choose which groups would go first.
Me: Let's roll the dice for it.
Jeff: Yeah, 20-sided dice!
Me: 20-sided? I have some of those. *pulls out 3 20-sided die from my backpack* You thought I was just joking, didn't you?
Jeff: Whoa, shit!

(lunchbreak)
CS184 Lecture...
Fencing...

For some odd reason, when I should have been doing schoolwork, I wasted three and a half hours browsing random websites looking at various software for Chatbots. (I did find a good one eventually, though, so it wasn't a total loss.) But still, I should have done more work.

Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 5) Total: 10

Good Night!
Sunday, April 3, 2005--All day all night planning out CS184 final project. w00t!

Good Night!
Saturday, April 2, 2005--It should be obvious by now that yesterday's entry was an April Fools' joke. However, as they say, the best lie is the truth said in an unbelievable way, and they also say that the best lies are half-truths. Thus, my entry yesterday was full of half-truths. You're goal is to separate the lies from the truth. First person to get them all correct wins a candy bar.

On this day:
In 2004: I play my first booster draft at Games of Berkeley.

Anyways, today was the TBP Big Social at Tilden park. It was amusing, but I really don't remember why.

Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 4) Total: 7

Good Night!
Friday, April 1, 2005--Today was pretty awesome. Because I didn't spend last night fencing, I got into bed early and thus woke up pretty early today, just in time to get to Bechtel to eat Donuts & Bagels with TBP.

On this day:
In 2004: In 2003: "We're kicking butt, 2 to 2!"

At Donuts & Bagels, I ran into Karen (well, how could I not? she's VP) who had accepted my offer to take EE125 with me. Hold up, I should back up a bit and give you gys more background info. So anyways, EE125 is cross-listed as BioE 125, and since Karen is BioE, she could potentially take this class, so I asked her to take EE125 with me because, well, Karen's cute. And I like having cute girls in my class. So yeah, it all ends up good, because Karen's in my class and she's a cute girl, but I digress. The main point was, since I found out that I don't actually need to do jack shit next semester (see a few paragraphs down), I was considering taking easy classes next semester, but I certainly can't pass up this opportunity to be in the same class as Karen!

E190... This was one crazy class. After giving us a quiz, which later degenerated into group work, just like on Wednesday, Marcel showed us Chindogu.com, which had the following:

"Do you know what a chindogu is. Well, dogu is Japanese for "tool" and chin is Japanese for "weird" (not to be confused with the Japanese for "penis", which is also chin). Thus, a chindogu is a weird tool. (Likewise, chinchin is a weird penis. However, under no circumstances is chindogu ever a penis tool. At least not yet.)"

It was hilarious. The whole class was laughing like mad. Naturally, we had some assignment on it: We had to take one of the Chindogu (useless invention) and try to market it. It was easy and amusing, to say the least.

Faculty Advising with Prof Gastpar... For those of you who didn't know, I actually could have graduated this semester if I had actually checked the box on Tele-bears when signing up for classes. But I didn't, so I have to stay here for an extra semester. Since I don't have any more requirements to fulfill, I figure I should screw around the next semester, right? Minimum courseload is 12, which means 3 classes, so I'm taking:
EE125 (So I can be with my darling Karen)
Music 49C (So I can be with my darling Tiffany)
Econ 100B (So I can be with my darling Kara)

See? I know where my priorities lie.

CS150 Lab Lecture... it finally happened. Colleen snapped and lashed out at Greg. It was bound to happen. Colleen has a tendency to surpress her anger (or so I would assume, because she always seems so kind and gentle even when life literally rapes her in the ass). So yeah, here is how it happened:

Colleen (to Tiffany): ...trained them to work at the animal shelter.
Me (dropping in on the conversation just now): Wait, are you training animals to work at the animal shelter?
Colleen: No, people.
Me: Oh, you trained people to work at the animal shelter.
Colleen: And then we started training the dogs--
Me: Training the dogs to work at the animal shelter?
Greg: Dude, stop being such a wise ass. That's my job! ...Actually, you're doing a pretty good job.
Colleen (to Greg): Leave us the fuck alone. I'm so sick and tired of you picking on us all the time.

The rest is a blur to me, but I'm pretty sure that Greg came up with a witty remark, and Colleen yelled at him some more, and eventually she ran out the room in tears. Well, this explains her LiveJournal entry.

Poor girl. I almost feel sorry for her. Actually, I really do feel sorry for her, because Greg can be intimidating if he wants. But yeah, instead of listening to Lab Lecture, I went outside to comfort Colleen and thus ended up missing the entire Lab Lecture.

On to more heartening events... So today, as all of you Californians should know (and by Californian, I mean Berkeley Cal, not California Cal), today is the the Spring Formal. So I go with my lovely date (whom I have told you about countless times) Kara. It was awesome. It was just like a high school dance, except it was in college, except I've never been to a high school dance, so I really wouldn't know. I kinda suck at dancing, but Kara and her friends tried to teach me. Yeah, Kara's cool like that. All in all, it was awesome.
