Saturday, May 31, 2003--Today, I woke up and ate breakfast at San Jose State University, the West Coast site for the ARML, and, in the process, wasted 2 half-cups of soda.
Simon: How did that happen?
Me: Well, I poured a cup of Sierra Mist, but it tasted really funny, so after drinking only half of it, I put it onto the auto-bus machine. Then, I got some Dr. Pepper, but after drinking half of that, I wasn't thirsty anymore, so I put the rest of
that on the machine, too. So that's 2 half-cups.
Simon: You're such a soda waster.
I'm famous for saying "Tetris-piece formation". Stephanie observes that as long as there are 4 people and they are sitting adjacent, they would always be in Tetris-piece formation.
On the Individual Round, I got 4. On the A team, 2 people got 7's (nobody got 8's anywhere), 3 people got 5's, 8 people got 4's, 1 person got a 2, and 1 person got a 1. On the B team, Ke got a 4, and that was the high score of the team.
For the Relay Round, for the first question, I got the right formula, but I'm number 3, and the number I received was incorrect, so I couldn't possibly have gotten it right. We traced it to Darren, our number 1, who mis-solved his problem. For the second relay, it was my fault, as I could not get the formula. It was a tricky problem!
On the Super Relay, we won lots and lots of candy, assorted candies in 15 ARML mugs. I ended up giving away half my candy because it was just too much candy!
For the ARML song contest, we had all sorts of crazy entrants. The C team (Lily's team, which incidentally included Stephanie) sang a parody of "My Favorite Things" from
The Sound of Music, called "My ARMLy Things". Kevin Lai (Joyce's brother) did a rap duet with this other guy.
Apparently, in India (and in Europe, according to Grace Li), they call it "Maths" as opposed to "Math".
In the end, we got 2nd place, losing to Thomas Jefferson High School by 2 points. Here's something to note: Jimmy Jia on our A team scored 1 point on the Individual Round. Ke Xu on our B team scored 4 points. If we had switched them, Ke would have gotten us 3 more points than Jimmy, and that would have been exactly enough for us to win by 1 point. D'oh!
Well, 2nd place is still good. It's a big improvement over 5th place last year.
Coming home, I played Kingdom Hearts.
*KH*
Well, I'm done now with Kingdom Hearts. I've already beaten the game once. I've gotten all the requirements for getting the hidden ending movie (which I've already seen anyway). I've beaten Phantom, but I can't seem to beat Sephiroth, Ice Titan, or the Hades Cup solo. I almost beat Kurt Zisa, though. Still, those things take skill, and I'm more of a strategy person, so I'm done.*KH*
Well, I'm done with Kingdom Hearts now. Time to play FF1 (or just FF, because they called it "Final Fantasy", not "Final Fantasy 1".)
*1*
"Elfland" is now called "Elfheim", thank god. I didn't make much progress in the game, though. There was some killer magic I wanted to buy, which meant stopping to fight to earn some Gil, but I gained some good levels, though. I heard that I'll be needing it, especially against the Dark Elf Astos.*1*
Oh, today, I was talking to Linda over AIM. The conversation went something like this:
Linda: Ke was complaining about how he had to room with you.
Me: Yeah, it probably has to do with how I was coming back to my room at midnight and I turned on the light and woke him up.
Linda: Midnight? Do I want to know what you were doing?
Me: I was playing games with the other kids downstairs. What did you think I was doing?
Linda: Oh, right, Joanna didn't go.
Me: What did you think I was doing?
Linda: ...
Me: This is the part where Justin comes in and says something and we all give him a weird, annoyed look.
And... that's all, folks. Time to roll the dice again!
Dice Roll of the Day: 6 + 2 = 8
Heh, 2 long posts in a row...
Anyways, I'll see you tomorrow! Same time, same place. Actually, technically, it's not the same time, because it's a day forward and technically it's not the same place, because the internet is not a place.
Good Night!
Friday, May 30, 2003--It's kind of funny how I'm posting separate entries for Friday and Saturday even though these two days should be taken as one unit, because these are the ARML days. Ah, well. It's still good, and it's more conventional to keep the days separate.
In any case, I was feeling pretty sick when I woke up in the morning this morning. Normally, I would have gone to school anyway, but I also had senioritis, so I decided to call in sick.
Then, my mom fed me enough medicine so that I would be healthy again, but by the time this happened, it was already too late to go to school.
Anyway, at around noon, I decided to rebuild my Sliver deck for 3 reasons:
- cut down on the number of proxies,
- I didn't want to rely on any comboes any more (first it was the Infinite Sliver combo, then it was the Toxin-Talon-Hunter combo)
- I wanted to revert to the strategy in my first Sliver deck, the one that inspired fear into so many of my opponents (while, of course, patching up its huge anti-air weakness)
Didn't get to test it, though.
So I went to the ARML.
While the people were gathering downstairs waiting for all the people to arrive so that we could go find our rooms and do more practices, Josh Batson and I went up to the dorms to play Magic the Gathering. Apparently, I was the only one who brought a deck, and it was a 5-colored Sliver deck, so we had to split it, as weird as it would turn out.
Anyways, in the first game, Josh got out the Essence Sliver and managed to deal enough damage to get himself up to 45 life and me down to 6 life. Then, I managed to get out both the Queen and the Overlord, and I had the Toxin Sliver, so as I was pumping out tokens, he asked if he could look through his half of the deck to see if he had any cards that would help him win. When he saw that he didn't, he forfeited. What an amazing comeback for me!
In our second game, Josh just creamed me. It was then that I decided we should go downstairs and ask if anyone else had any Magic cards, as playing with half of a Sliver deck was very... not working well. (Incidentally, Wizards of the Coast makes regular playing cards that say Magic the Gathering on the back. The colors are different, though.)
When we got downstairs, we saw that everyone had gone to go do practices, so Josh and I (both on the A team), obtained a schedule and made our way to the building. We only missed 8 minutes of a Team Round Practice, so we were okay.
After the practices were dinner, which I ate.
Me: This hotdog tastes like shit!
Other guy (I forget exactly who): And how would you know? Have you tasted shit before?
Me: I don't mean it
literally. It's just an expression.
Other guy: Well, then, don't use it.
Me: But I like expressions and idioms and cliches!
After the practices was the actual ARML. In the Team Round, I solved two problems, which I said I would solve. By then, all of them were solved except number 10, which I tried and failed, so I ended up checking everyone else's work.
In the Power Round, by the time I understood the basic info needed to understand the questions, all the easy problems were already solved and all the hard problems were... above me, so I ended up helping people out and checking answers. Well, I was never good at proofs anyway...
I played the piano for Joyce. Since there were two pianos in this dorm, we played synchronized pianisms (if that's even a word). Yes, we played the exact same song at the exact same time in the same room on two different pianos. Then, she asked me to play the 3rd Movement of the Moonlight Sonata, and I can't play it that fast. So I'm playing it, and someone else goes to the other piano and plays it twice as fast as I am. I stop.
I played 3 games of Mafia with the group. In the first game, I was a Mafia and I killed Joyce. Then, Steph remembered that I had previously told her that I kill off people I know, so I got lynched by the townspeople. Steph was killed by the Mafia the next game. Then, I told her that Mafia often betray Mafia, as they had done for me.
The second game was in someone's room, and it was really cramped. I was the cop, and I managed to help get Mafia killed, until there was only 1 left. Incidentally, the Mafia had killed a Mafia in the night, for God knows what reason. Well not even "God" (or the "Goderator" knows why), and I was the only non-Mafia who knew, because I was the cop.
In the third game, I was sitting next to Steph and I accidentally told her, "I'm always something." And she's like, "Wait a minute... You're a Mafia." In the night, I had her killed, but she had apparently told her friend before that if she died, I was a Mafia, so he got me mob-lynched next day. Heh, it's difficult to survive to the end of a Mafia game...
Stephanie doesn't know how to play Chess...
Me: Hey, Steph, you wanna play Chess?
Steph: I don't know how.
Me: You don't?
That's apparently the end of the day...
Yes, I'm going to roll dice today even though I wasn't home to roll dice at the time.
Dice Roll of the Day: 1 + 4 = 5
Today's entry is kind of long, but it's also an event-filled day!
Good Night!
Thursday, May 29, 2003--Whoops! I actually had this one finished last night, but right when I clicked "Save", my internet connection went down. Lucky for me, I copied onto Notepad.
Ach, sick again! Only two weeks after a recovered from my last disease. I woke up today with a sore throat, which later cleared up into an itchy throat, but it gave way to a fever and a stuffy/runny nose. If I start acting like I'm delirious, it probably means I am.
Mr. Langlois: Well, for you, the final was just a formality, but you did it perfectly.
For the Math 78 final, all I needed was 1/10, but I apparently got 10/10.
Second period...
Third period... Our stock presentation was fast. We did well--no questions asked. I mean that literally, there were no questions asked because Mr. Jamil invoked the no questions rule because we were in a hurry.
Fourth period...
At lunch, I duelled Alan's Angel deck, which he took from Jon as collateral for the money he owed him which was later stolen. First, I duelled him with my real deck and won, thanks to the Ward Slivers. Then, I duelled him with my proxies and lost, thanks to his Radiant and his Silver Seraph and my foolishly playing the Coat of Arms.
Fifth period...
Sixth period...
After school, I went home and took a nap. Then, I went to the Awards Night, where I got hella math awards.
Apparently, Californians say "hella" and Canadians say "eh?", so Mark should say something to the effect of "That girl's hella hot, eh?"
Anyways, I've posted on this website in sickness and in health--in sickness today. I won't be posting tomorrow because I'll be at the ARML, hopefully healthy.
Dice Roll of the Day: 6 + 4 = 10
Ech, Good Night! I'll need as much sleep as I can get in order to recover my health tomorrow.
Wednesday, May 28, 2003--Anyways...
In first period, I duelled Ryan's green deck twice and lost both times, thanks to Wild Mongrels and Basking Rootwallas. Then, I duelled Justin's red deck and lost pathetically. Then, I duelled his black deck and lost, but not pathetically.
Second period...
Woohoo! T-period returns, but it's different now. Now, you have to stay in your second period class, unless you have a note signed by a teacher (in advance) that says you have to go see them at T-period. Lucky for me, I had such a note from Mr. Yim.
Stephanie Shih: Hey, Stace, you wanna stay in here for a while and chat before we go outside?
Stace: No, we need a note.
Steph: Can't we get one.
Me: No, in order to get a note, you'll have to leave class to go to the teacher so he can give you a note, but in order to leave class, you'll need a note that excuses you to leave class.
Anyways, on my way out, I saw lots of people leaving their classes, almost as if the teachers didn't know that they had to keep the students in for T-period.
So I see Joanna exiting Miss Yamamoto's room, and I say to her, "I was wrong yesterday. I
am going to see you today. I saw you today. In fact, I see you right now." She had to go tutor.
Anyway, upon entering Mr. Yim's room, I played Steph Yaung tic-tac-toe twice. In the first game, she went first, and I forced a cat's game. In the second game, I forced a win. You realize that in tic-tac-toe if the first player plays perfectly, then the game is determined by the second move. If both players play perfectly, it'll be a cat's game.
Then, I played Nim twice against Stephanie. In both games, she went first, but in the first, she won because of my system, and in the second, I lost because I forgot the system.
Then, Steph, Linda, Lei, and Michael played lots and lots of 13. I ended up playing every other game for some reason, and in one game, I bombed something and didn't lose.
Third period...
In Mr. Roske's room, there was a horrible stench (which Arjun liked), so we went to the Library instead. There, Mr. Roske showed us his "unpoppable bubbles". They really are unpoppable. They don't pop. They shrivel.
At lunch, I'm standing outside Mr. Yim's room, and Lei walks in. I say, "Well, if Lei says there's a Math Team meeting, then there must be a Math Team meeting."
People were using Mr. Yim's room as a holding bin while the Math Club Presidents Linda and Claire interviewed next year's Math Club officer candidates. I went to fetch Franklin. In the last five minutes, they interviwed him. Three minutes later, he came out and he had the job of CAML Chair, or so I heard. Linda explains, "He's cute, he speaks well, and no one else wanted the job, so we gave him the job."
Fifth period...
Sixth period...
After school, I finished the stock report without my group, because I'd be busy at night when the rest of my group would be expected to be online.
Yeah, I was busy tonight with the quartet. It was fun. I want to do it again next week, but Jeff will probably do the quartet since he's better than me. Emma was there, but she was tired since he had to study for finals, but she didn't know what finals they were.
Oh, and Emma's the only white person in our quartet, and she's the only girl in our quartet, so she's the only white girl in our quartet. "Is that bad?" she asks. I reply, "I don't know."
Anyways, Al Q wants a mention on my website, so here it goes!
alqian73: speaking of your journal...
alqian73: put me in there
Viltris: ok
alqian73: just for the fun of it :-D
Viltris: "Albert Q thinks I'm funny. I dunno why."
alqian73: c'mon...something more than that
alqian73: well....of course you know why i think you are funny
alqian73: you...
Viltris: i guess i do
Viltris: i know!
Viltris: i'll post an excerpt from this conversation on my website
Viltris: the part where you ask me to put you on my website!
I hope that satisfies.
Anyway, the day is nearly finished.
Dice Roll of the Day: 6 + 4 = 5
Meh! (What's a "meh!" anyway?) Good Night!
Tuesday, May 27, 2003--Argh! I was writing a lot for this entry when suddenly my comp crashed. Thus, if you find that this entry seems a little rushed, it's because I don't want to have to put all that much thought and effort into it
a second time. Anyways, let me now try to re-create that entry.
Apparently, Joanna reads my website (maybe only a little bit, but she made a reference to it today). I hope I didn't come off the wrong way today (I'm speaking toward Joanna by the way, but this also applies to everyone... kind of), but feel free to read my website as much as you want. That's why I made it, for everyone to read. That's what it's there for. Therefore, read my website!
First period...
Second period...
My original paragraphs for third period were in a different order, I'm sure, but I'm too annoyed to re-write the rhetorics involved in getting a jumbled event tied together as artistically as I had before. Anyways, we decided to do Current Events outside today to enjoy the good weather, even though several people in my class are allergic to it. On my way out, I volunteered to carry a chair, and I accidentally knocked out Deena with it. She's all right, of course, after having taken a nap.
I volunteered to do my Current Event first, and since I was carrying the chair, I put it into the shade. Later, Mr. Jamil's moving around his chair a lot, trying to avoid the heat, so what he ends up doing is that he trades chairs with the speakers, so the speakers end up sitting in the sun while Mr. Jamil sits in the shade.
While Justin and... Ryan? Andrew? One of those two... were lying on the ground, Justin says to me, "Hey, Dwayne! Come lie with us." I assumed that was an innuendo, because it sure sounded like one and it was very blunt, so I ignored him.
Anyways, upon coming back to class, I went ahead of the pack, probably because I walk too fast, so I ended up getting back to the room first. Because I was the first one into the room, I decided, for some reason and yet for no reason, to say "Hello" to Christine.
Fourth period...
The roses in my front yard are in bloom. I already did something with them. Apparently, she liked them.
Afterwards, I quickly rush over to Mr. Woo's room, where I duel Alan. He beats me with his Riptide Replicator, pumping out a mass of white 6/6 Sliver tokens. Lucky for me, I got out the Ward Sliver and called protection from white. Alan was slowly taking damage and dying... until Justin and Ryan pointed out that he had so many tokens, he could overrun me to death, so he did. He overran me to death, even though he could have and should have done so 4 or 5 turns ago. That Riptide Replicator draw was luck, because he only has 1 of them in his 60 card deck. Plus, I was using my real deck...
Later, I duel Justin's new and improved goblin deck with my proxied Slivers. His deck is
damn fast. He beat me within 3 or 4 turns, before I even had a chance to set up a decent defense.
You ever noticed how lately, Magic the Gathering has been about speed rather than about cool cards and intricate strategies? Those with the fastest decks win. My Sliver deck is fast, but it isn't
that fast. Justin's deck is purely insane!
Fifth period...
Sixth period...
After school, we all congregated around Mr. Yim's room for the Math Team "lunch" at Chevy's, using the gift certificates we won at the BAMM.
Me: Linda, don't give me that look.
Linda (not giving me a look): What look? (gives me a look)
Me: That look! Right there!
Actually, we didn't congregate. Within the first 10 minutes, everyone who was supposed to go eat with us had been in the room at some point in time that afternoon, but never at the same time. We had to wait 10 more minutes for everyone to assemble, and when we did, we had to wait another 10 minutes because, apparently, Mr. Yim was talking to someone. By the time we left for Chevy's, it was 3:10. We arrived at 3:30 and left at 5:00, just for those of you who want timeframes.
Highlights of the lunch:
Everyone now makes fun of Lei and Michael--especially Lei, but not without Michael.
After Mr. Yim takes a picture of Lei and Michael, Linda says (referring to Joanna and I), "You can pretend that those two are a couple and take a picture." That didn't settle very well...
Me: Steph, isn't "quesadilla" Spanish for "cheese"?
Steph: No, that's "quesa".
Me: Then, what's a "quesadilla"?
Steph: It's what I'm ordering.
Joanna: What's with the "daily dice roll" thing?
Me: You've been reading my website.
Joanna: Umm... a little.
Me: I apparently talk about you too much.
(And I do talk about Joanna too much, especially considering how I never see her because she's so hard to find. In case you haven't noticed, I've only listed 4 highlights, and already, half of them involve Joanna. By the way, I stand by what I said earlier, Joanna, you can read my website as much as you want. I didn't mean to make it sound like I had a problem with you reading it.)
(In retrospect, maybe I
should have a problem with it. I mean, since I talk about her too much, that might freak her out and all...)
(Well, my excuse for that is that I think of you [Joanna] often.)
(No, that's a horrible, utterly horrible excuse.)
(Maybe I should stop paying attention to Joanna, so that way I'll write about her less.)
(But so many of the amusing things that happen in my vicinity include Joanna!)
(Argh! So many parenthetical remarks!)
Lastly...
Steve: Eat you're vegetables, Dwayne!
Me: (gives him strange look)
Steve: Actually, can I have some?
Me: Sure. Anything that's not meat on my plate, you can have.
Steve:
Anything that's not meat? Ooh, good, I need my vegetables. (eats at least half of my vegetables)
On our way out, as I was saying goodbye to everyone, I said, "Bye, everyone. I'll see you all tomorrow, except for you, Joanna, because you're so hard to find I might not see you at all tomorrow."
(Argh! I'm talking about Joanna again!)
Finally, I come home. I have to call Jeff regarding the location of the Quartet. I wanted to call Emma, though...
Wow... long entry today. Don't worry. It's almost done.
Dice Roll of the Day: 3 + 2 = 5
Now, it's done.
Good Night!
Monday, May 26, 2003--Today is... Memorial Day? Thus, there was no school today.
Anyways, today was the second time that Franklin wandered off into territory in FF2 where the monsters were way too strong for him, and he was killed, and I took the game from him.
*2*
I made it to Fynn, where Prince Scott fell off the bed and died. Then, I returned to Altair, where Mindu joined my party. Mindu's damn strong, and he looks really cool, too.*2*
I was about to work on
Dark Fiends Chapter 23, but then, Alan called me. Then, I had to go to SJYS rehearsal.
Me: Hi, Emma. You know, you can tell the seasons by the way people dress.
Emma: Oh. (wearing a tanktop) Oh, I'm sorry.
Me: Naw, it's okay.
Apparently, I'm now playing a Quartet for SJYS on Wednesday.
Wow... short entry today...
Dice Roll of the Day: 4 + 2 = 6
Not a 7...
Anyways, I had an interesting conversation with Joanna tonight, but I can't repeat it here, probably because of something I said just as she logged off, and thus, she didn't get the message, but it would be bad for me to post it up here.
Goddamn, I've been mentally sick for the last week or two...
Anyways, Good Night y'all!
Sunday, May 25, 2003--Well, I was trying to play FF2 this morning, but as soon as I began (before I could do anything), my parents called us over to get our family picture taken. (I don't know why we need a family picture.) Thus, while I was getting dressed, Franklin immediately took over the game, and now he's interested in FF2, so I barely got to play any FF2 today.
From the ARML practice, I needed to pick up Bernard because my family was going to their place for dinner. I managed to play 15 minutes of FF2, but then, Franklin wanted to play the Matrix, so he did. So, I duelled Bernard with my new deck that features a proxied Sliver Overlord. I only got to use the Sliver Overlord once, and it was to deal 8 points of damage to kill Bernard. Most of the time, I rushed him with Plated Slivers and Muscle Slivers, and so won.
Hmm... the paragraphs in this are broken very awkwardly.
At dinner at Bernard's last night, one of his parents (I can't remember whether it was his mom or dad) asked me...
Parent: Dwayne, do you have a girlfriend?
Me: Well, I have a girl who is a friend.
Parent:
Me: (interrupting) I mean, I have a friend who is a girl. I don't have a girl.
Bernard: (upon hearing about the above conversation) Nice job, Dwayne!
Oh, and yesterday, my parents bought a new Camry. It's white. I drove it. It had that new car smell, which, according to my dad, is hazardous to our health, and the brakes weren't sensitive enough. You had to press them down all the way to get a response, but my dad said that you always need to break in the brakes on a new car.
We were at Bernard's place a long time. We ended up playing Bomberman and DOA2 toward the end, but by the time we got home, I was too tired to do updates.
Apparently, car rides make me sleepy. I always thought the best place to take a nap was in the car.
Anyways...
Dice Roll of the Day: 4 + 3 = 7
Yep, lucky 7's. They're lucky because they're the most likely number to come up given a pair of dice.
Anyways...
Good Night!
Saturday, May 24, 2003--We went hiking today, and it took such a long time. My mom was like "Are you sure we're going the right way?" And I was like, "Have a little faith and we'll make it back to the parking lot." Toward the end, for some reason, although everyone else was tired, I felt really energetic, so I ended up walking all the way to the end of the round-trip trail, making it back to the parking lot. Then, I walked back to my parents and my brother and guided them all the way back to the parking lot. It was a good workout.
For lunch, while my parents went to go eat Dim Sum, Franklin and I went to McDonald's. Then, we flew over to Toys'R'Us and he bought Enter the Matrix (the PS2 game) and I bought FF Origins.
So I was playing FF1. It's a cool game! The PSX remake is actually the 2nd remake of FF1. The Wonderswan version was the first remake, and it already had hella enhanced graphics and sound and stuff. That's what the PSX version is based off of. The graphics are FF6-quality and the sound and music are also FF6-quality, and I daresay the sound and music are comparable to PSX FF's.
There were a lot of translation changes in the new FF1. For example, Fighter is now called Warrior and Black Belt is now called Monk, and Garland no longer says, "I will knock you all down!" What a pity! It was such a cool line. A lot of items and spells got name changes, too, and place names were retranslated.
So anyways, I picked the Warrior, Thief, Black Mage, and White Mage, a good, balanced party. I decided to name these characters after my friends and I. I became the Black Mage. Justin became the Warrior. Alan became the Thief. Also, even though it's ambiguous in FF1, the White Mage has traditionally been a girl in all the other FFs, so naturally, I named the White Mage after a girl. Guess which girl that was?
*1*
Having played FF1 before, I'm a lot more experienced at it. Even though it's a "tough" game, I managed to survive where before I would have gotten my ass kicked. I beat Garland. He was a pushover, despite being one of my favorite villains.
I later realized that Matoya's eye would have to come later in the game and I made my way to Pravoca (now spelled with a C instead of a K), where I creamed Bikke's pirate crew. At first, I was worried because I was outnumbered 9 to 4, but those pirates are pathetically weak!
Also, as to name changes, the Temple of Fiends is now called the Temple of Chaos, Corneria is now called Cornelia, Princess Sara is now Princess Sarah, and Queen Jane is now Queen Jayne.
What's cool about the Warrior is that he can wear such strong armor. Most of the time, when an enemy attacks, he takes only 1 damage. It's really sweet. I hope my getting a Thief instead of a Warrior is worth it, because he's pretty weak physically, and he can't equip as good stuff as the Warrior.*1*
Enter the Matrix is like watching Matrix 1.5...
The roses in my front yard are in full bloom. I wonder what I could do with them... Mwahahaha!
Dice Roll of the Day: 6 + 1 = 7
Another 7? Well, they are pretty common, ya know?
Anyways, that's all I have to say tonight. Good Night!
Friday, May 23, 2003--"Why isn't there an intro?" is my intro.
First period was dueling as usual. I forgot my cookies, so I had to drive home. Then, I delivered them to Miss Koyanagi's room during passing period.
Second period... Mr. Haake is ubiquitous! He subbed for Mr. Jamil last tuesday. Today, he's subbing for Mr. Peterson. A while back, he was proctoring all the AP tests. He's also the girls' swim coach!
Instead of third period, we went to the Sober Graduation assembly. I wasn't planning on getting drunk anyways. And the only thing I'll ever get high off is life and cute girls. Yes, I'm gonna get high off cute girls. I've done it before!
In fourth period, we had a sub, so we all "went to the Library". I duelled Justin and melted, because the sun was so damn hot!
At lunch, I went to the Math Club Meeting. Steph doesn't want to ditch school with me next Friday, because she wants to go to her 5th and 6th period classes to listen to Bowen and some other teacher lecture. Ke says, "Come on, Dwayne, it's only 2 classes. It won't make a difference." I say, "Yes, it's only 2 classes, so it won't make a difference if I ditch them." The freshmen were saying "Nice reversal"...
Me: Joanna! Do you know how ridiculously hard it is to find you when its not Tuesday after school?
Joanna: Oh, sorry. I'm just usually not out at lunch anymore.
Fifth period...
In sixth period, we had a pot luck. I didn't eat much food, because either Iwen or Ken or Chris--I don't remember who exactly--told me to take a big chunk of cake in 4th period, so I was stuffed with sugar.
After school, I played Kingdom Hearts.
*KH*
I completed Winnie the Pooh world. The last part's a big puzzle, but it's pretty easy. It took me 10 minutes, though, and the thing is timed.
I also found 96 of the 99 puppy Dalmations. The last 3 are on the clock tower, though. I missed them the first time around, and now, if I go to the clock tower, I'll be ambushed by Phantom. Looks like a fight coming up for me...*KH*

Dice Roll of the Day: 4 + 1 = 5
I think I'll call it a night. Good Night!
Thursday, May 22, 2003--That was a random post in my guestbook. Extreme? Creepy? Where the hell are they getting this stuff from, anyway? Definitely not from my Journal, unless they think that playing Magic the Gathering is extreme and that Magic players are creepy.
Oh, right... I just realized that most people don't condone a senior going after a 9th-grader. My bad. I guess you
could consider that "extreme and creepy", but if you did, you'd be a very closed-minded person, ya know?
Anyway, despite the fact that I didn't have to, I took the Math 78 Quiz. It was so redundant that after grading, Mr. Langlois just gave it right back to me after grading it, because he drops the worst quiz, and I've taken all the quizzes, and I've gotten perfect scores on all of them (except the Take-Home Quiz, which can't be dropped), and this was the last quiz, so he automatically dropped it by default because it wouldn't matter. Wow! Long sentence!
In second period, I made the Piano from Hell, an electronic instrument that plays random notes, which makes it impossible to play any coherent song. Hell, I could just hold down 1 key, and it would make random noise. The only way to play "regular" music is to play staccatto, which is apparently too short for the Random Modulation to kick in.
In third period, both Atlas Mutual and us (Corpnucopia) did Honda. We went first, but they did a better presentation.
In fourth period, I was unable to describe my Chem project, but Alexei's paper got us by the first check. Thank goodness!
Lunch... Mmmm... Sandwich...
Fifth period...
Sixth period... Koyanagi got mad at us for not being able to figure out the story.
Dice Roll of the Day: 5 + 2 = 7
Heh! Good Night! Don't let the succubi bite!
Wednesday, May 21, 2003--The coolest way to win in Magic is when you're opponent is wide open and you have six Slivers and you play a Coat of Arms. 36+ damage, yo! That's what I did to Justin today. Later, he played me real deck and I lost pathetically, that Royal Assassin-Icy Manipulator combo.
There were more duels, I'm sure, but I don't remember them anymore.
Second period...
Third period...
In fourth period, we did work/watched the last half of Jimmy Neutron.
During the Wednesday Lunch version of the Math Team meeting, Linda couldn't stop poking fun and Lei and Michael...
Fifth period...
In sixth period, since half the people were taking the makeup English AP test, we were moved to Kim's room H-2. Incidentally, apparently, Jessica Chen TAs there 6th period, so her presence was in the room the whole time. So, we traded rough drafts and read stories. I think I got kind of positive feedback from the people who read my story. They liked the flashbacks, which is good!
After school was my second to last Viola lessons. I'm sick of the viola. Thanks to years of bad posture, the left side of my neck (which is stressed whenever I hold the Viola) is often irritated.
Here's a pointless but interesting fact: Justin's name appears more often in a single full page of my journal than Joanna's name appears throughout the whole journal. Joanna's name appears more often in a single full page of my journal than Cindy's or Connie's name appears in the whole journal. Interesting...
So I'm trying to make a rice cube...
Dice Roll of the Day: 1 + 2 = 3
Nothing left to say. I can't decide why I'm so tired. Is it because I lack sleep? Is it because of the weather (so damn hot). Or is it because of my heart? Time will tell... or will it?
Good Night!
Tuesday, May 20, 2003--Yesterday, in 6th period, Sam Lai and Omar Hajji were playing Magic, so I joined in and played one quick game, in which I utterly creamed Sam and his... red deck? Then, I offered to buy Omar's Metallic Sliver for 50 cents. He insists that I have it for free. I offer him 25 cents. He insists that I have it for free. I offer him a penny. He insists I have it for free. So now, I have a Metallic Sliver.
Today, in 6th period, I duelled Sam again. This time, he brought his green deck. During the first game, I utterly creamed him. In the second game, I had bad mana flow, so early on, he brought me to 1 Life. Then, I got out my Brood Sliver and Winged Sliver and just kept attacking for more and more tokens. However, I made the mistake of attacking with everything, and he Fogged me, so I was wide open for him to kill me.
Anyways, today, Math 78...
Second period...
In third period, we watched more of Wall Street.
In fourth period, we finished Omega Man, which I thought was pretty interesting. Why are we watching so many movies in school?
At lunch... I ate lunch and watched some Magic games going on, but played in none.
Fifth period...
In sixth period, we had the choice of reading "Kugelmass Episode" (a really good short story, guest starring Emma Bovary) or writing a poem. I wrote a poem, because I like writing poetry. After writing my poem in, like 10 minutes, I duelled Sam. He challenged me.
It's so damn hot today. Such heat is making me utterly, utterly lazy.
For once, I practiced the Viola during a time frame that is not equivalent to an hour before my lessons.
Then, I worked on
Duty. Ah, life is good. Talking to stuff about people.
Dice Roll of the Day: 2 + 6 = 8
At the Math Team today, there were several interesting things going on, most of them involving Joanna.
Joanna: I'm hot. (referring to the hot weather)
Me: Remember what Justin was talking about two weeks ago? (reference to my May 6 Journal entry)
At the Math Team discussion, we kept on digressing, and Linda said, "Anyway, back to the Math Team" pretty much once every 2 minutes.
Me: Why was I sitting down there anyway?
Linda: Probably to get close to Joanna.
Me: Hmm... that sounds reasonable.
Linda: Uhh... I didn't actually expect you to agree to that.
So tired... Dreamed about 9th grade girls...
Good Night!
Monday, May 19, 2003--I realized the substance of my website! It's in anecdotes! Well, here's an anecdote for you:
Yesterday, at the end of the ARML, we were doing the Taiwanese Power Round, and I solved a problem, but no one else was doing work, so I started the answer pile. Eventually, everyone just started making and throwing paper airplanes. later, when I went to go add something to the answer pile (I solved problem #10, the "hard" one), I noticed the answers were all gone. After asking everyone where my answer went, I came to the conclusion that, "My answer got up and flew away."
Anyway, during first period, I duelled Justin 3 times and creamed him utterly. The first time, I used my proxies and I crushed him. He didn't stand a chance. The second game, he Nevinyrral'ed everything, then summoned two Sengir Vamps, and I was scared for a while. Somehow, with my proxied Coat of Arms and my Hunter Slivers, I ended up wiping him out and overkilling him for 37 damage.
The third game, I used my real deck, and after mulligan'ing once, I drew a Sliver Queen and an Ashnod's Altar. On my first turn, I drew a Heartstone--that was the combo right there, but Justin got out his Deathgrip. Fortunately, by the time I had enough mana to play the Sliver Queen, Justin was temporarily tapped out, so I summoned the Queen and made infinite Slivers. Justin immediately forfeited.
Second period...
In third period, we went outside for Current Events, except only 3 people had prepared Current Events. Whoops!
In fourth period Chem AP, we watched
The Omega Man. It's interesting...
At lunch, I duelled Jon, who's last name I am unable to spell. In the beginning, I had trouble getting Slivers out, and he quickly got 7 dwarves. (That's right,
seven dwarves.) After taking 3 damage from some rush damage he did, he managed to use 1 dwarf and pumped him up by tapping the other 6 dwarves to do 13 damage! That brought me down to 4 life, and I was worried. Then, I got out my Spined Sliver and a Hunter Sliver and killed off 3 of his dwarves. The next turn, he made two of his dwarves unblockable with his other two dwarves and smacked for 2 damage, bringing me down to 2 life. Then, I provoked and killed off the rest of his dwarves. Jon promptly forfeited, making that a technical win on my part. Heh, I almost lost, though...
Fifth period...
Sixth period...
After school, I started working on the second draft for
Duty.
Last night, I was talking to Lizzie. Her full name was Elizabeth, and apparently, although no one calls her "Beth", she's going to let me call her "Beth" because she "doesn't care what I call her". However, she takes offense if I call her "cute girl". Today, as a joke, I called her "Beth" at the SJYS rehearsal. On an unrelated note, during the SJYS rehearsal, Yair got really pissed.
Dice Roll of the Day: 5 + 2 = 7
Anyways...
Viltris: what;s your story about?
ZenithPaladin: umm
ZenithPaladin: father and daughter work in same company
ZenithPaladin: high tech arms company
ZenithPaladin: boss frames them both
ZenithPaladin: father was goody goody person
ZenithPaladin: then becomes bitter and cold
ZenithPaladin: daughter tries to save father
ZenithPaladin: but fails in the end
ZenithPaladin: that's the gist of it
Viltris: justin's in your group, isn't he?
ZenithPaladin: yes
Viltris: i have a bad feeling about this father-daughter thing
Viltris: electra complex, yo!
ZenithPaladin: lol
ZenithPaladin: no.....not going in that direction
ZenithPaladin: it was justin who came up with it tho
That was very substantial.
She took off her sweater!
Good Night!
Stephanie does not want to go eat Chevy's tomorrow, or so she's led me to believe.
Sunday, May 18, 2003--*KH*
I'm trying to complete the Winnie the Pooh world, so I played for half an hour this morning. The hardest part about the Winnie the Pooh world is finding those goddamned Torn Pages*KH*
Oh my God! Did Dwayne just start off the entry with a game spoiler (with blackened spoiler text, of course)?!? He's never done that before!
Anyway, someone decided to post a spoiler on Dwayne's life in my guestbook. Whatever. Yes, it's true that I do like her. She's so damn cute! That and she's the only single girl that I know who hasn't run away after finding out my feelings for her. That's all I gotta say about that.
Other than playing Kingdom Hearts this morning, I also updated the website updates that I couldn't because I was sick and tired... mostly tired, but partly sick.
Then, I had lunch at KFC, which still
does serve chicken, then went off the the ARML practice. At the ARML practice, we did the TRML (the Taiwanese version of the ARML). Those crazy Taiwanese... they're problems are so tough, but they suck at proofs. Yeah, all the rounds were a little trickier than the normal ARML rounds, except for the Power Round, which was ridiculously easy. Only in one question was the word "prove" even used.
Oh, by the way, I am Taiwanese, if you go back one generation--3/4 Taiwanese if you go back two. If you go back zero generations, I'm completely American, because I was born here in the good old US of A.
Today, at about 9pm, so many people were online. It was scary! Almost half of the people on my buddy list were online!
That seems to be all today...
Dice Roll of the Day: 3 + 2 = 5
I'm trying to think of something to say, but my mind is blank, so I'll just stick with the traditional Good Night!
Saturday, May 17, 2003--Today, my dad wouldn't let me go to Chinese School with a mild cold. "You're sick. You can't go to school." "I'm not sick." "You sound sick." "It's just a mild cold!" The thing was, I didn't really want to go to school. I just didn't want to give my parents an excuse to not let me go to the movies to see
Matrix: Reloaded. *hypothetical*"You're so sick, you couldn't go to school. What makes you think we'd let you go to the movies?"*hypothetical*
I did go to the Chinese School carnival, though. "What? The carnivore?" "Carnival!" "Connieval?" "Carnival!" "Car-ni-val!" "Well why didn't you say so?" "I did!" Anyways, Cindy was there despite the fact that she graduated (two years early) from Chinese School last year. Justin kept track of her the whole time...
Connie was forced to sit on a chair in the sun to watch over their booth--I don't know what it was. She tried to sell me a hamster while I had a fork in one hand and a bowl of rice in the other. Umm... That doesn't work too well.
Justin (away from Connie and Franklin where they can't here use): Look! Connie's flirting with Franklin.
(Connie smacks Franklin) Umm... Okay, maybe not.
I duelled against Justin and creamed him 3 out of 3, once with my proxies, once with my real deck, and once I don't remember which.
Me: Poor Connie, having to sit in the hot sun the whole time...
Connie: Yeah, I'm getting a tan.
Apparently, Justin forgot to buy a ticket for me because I wasn't online last night, so I couldn't go with the gang. However, while trying to Fandango it at the last second, I found tickets available at close to the same time at a theatre half as far, so my family (me, Frank, mom, and dad) went to see
Matrix: Reloaded by ourselves.
It took a while to get started, but it was pretty cool, and the plot twists!
Anyways, I beat Kingdom Hearts today. Now, I need to go back and get some of those secrets. Of course, I don't think I'll be able to beat Sephiroth. He's
damn hard, and I'm not good at 1v1 battles.
At the last save point before I beat the game, I was at level 60 (although I levelled up to level 61 after the first battle, and after the final battle, I got up to level 62...
after I already beat the game!. My time at the last save point was 30:01.
Kellie came to our house and we were watching Naruto. Later, Franklin was throwing a bouncy smilie ball at me--it bounced off my head and went right back to Franklin--several times.
Ah, it was a long day today, or so it seems.
Dice Roll of the Day: 5 + 6 = 11
Ach! Why is there so much dust in my room!?
Good Night!
Friday, May 16, 2003--I don't remember what happened today. I woke up with a mild cold and went to school. By the time I came back, I had a headache and a fever, so I fell asleep and didn't wake up for a long time.
Of course, I woke up again at 10pm feeling absolutely perfect, but my mom was like, "Dwayne, go to sleep, you're sick."
So, yeah, now I have a mild cold (or it could be allergies--I kicked up a lot of dust when I was clearing my room), but no fever, no headache, no SARS.
I'm pretty sure today during first period I dueled, and Justin brought two decks and Ryan came and Will wanted to play, so we almost had four player mayhem, except no one wanted to play a 4 player game.
Second period...
In third period, Jamil was gone, so we watched Wall Street, a movie about... Wall Street?
Fourth period...
At lunch, I went to the Math Team meeting. The first people in were, apparently, the four 9th-graders and the last people out were, apparently, the four 9th-graders. Intriguing...
Fifth period...
Sixth period...
What I like most about being really sick is that you don't have to do anything. What I hate most about being really sick is that you can't do anything.
Dice Roll of the Day: 4 + 3 = 7
*yawn* I'm so tired...
NOT! Good Night!
Thursday, May 15, 2003--(over AIM)
Me: whatever happened to the cute sarah i used to know and love?
Sarah: haha
Sarah: i became distinctly uncute
Anyways, the Math 78 midterm was easy, as was the Econ test in period 3. Well, not so much easy as it was straightforward--the Econ test, that is. The Math 78 midterm was definitely easy.
Second period...
Fourth period...
At lunch, I dueled against Justin and won, mainly because I stalled with until I had a sizable attacking force. Then, I went in for the kill. It was against Justin's Goblin Deck.
Justin: Slivers are so cheap.
Me: No, they're expensive. Why else do you think I've had to spend so much money.
Justin: No, I meant gameplay-wise cheap.
Fifth period...
Sixth period...
After school, I mainly worked on the short story project. However, at one point, I played Franklin MTG, and won 2 of the 3 games. Actually, we played a 4th game, but it didn't count because Franklin had horrible mana flow, so he forfeited.
Me: I barely have enough mana!
Ryan: You call 5 lands barely any mana?
Me: Hey, it's not the quantity that counts, it's the quality.
Anyways, that's pretty much it for tonight. Hmm... three conversations alone today. Oh, and Alan reprimanded me for going after 9th-graders. He thinks I'm doing something illegal, but I'm no statutory rapist.
Dice Roll of the Day: 3 + 2 = 5 again
Hmm... Good Night!
Wednesday, May 14, 2003--Justin made his red deck faster. He dueled me twice with it against my real deck and I lost twice, mainly to his burns. I hate burns. They... burn?
Didn't I say I was going to add more content to my journal? Oh well.
Second period, the quiz was easy. Phrygian, yo!
Third period...
In fourth period, we have to do a Post-AP Chemistry project, involving creating a lab to teach little elementary school children about Chemistry that can fit in a brown paper bag.
At lunch was the Math Team meeting. Not much happens at the Math Team anymore...
Fifth period...
Sixth period...
Viola lessons...
The short story project is coming along quite well. It's called
Duty. It's going to be set in the fantasy/medieval era and will be almost a love story, but not quite. It will, however, be thematic and somewhat symbolic.
Dice Roll of the Day: 3 + 2 = 5
The End!
Good Night!
Tuesday, May 13, 2003--That Chemistry AP test was
easy! I swear to god, all of the difficulties people encounter on that test are psychological difficulties. As long as you know the material, you'll do fine. As long as you believe that it's an easy test, the test will be easy for you. It's as soon as you start to lose confidence that you start doing poorly.
Plus, for most tests, you only need 70% to get a 5. That's C or better to get the top score!
Just before lunch, I duelled Justin twice with my real Sliver deck against his red deck. He lost pathetically twice in a row.
At lunch, Connie was selling food for Speech & Debate. I didn't have any money. That and I already had a sack lunch.
And Linda is now afraid of Alan because he keeps harassing her because of the iFlurtz compatibility test. Poor Linda.
Fifth period...
In sixth period English AP, we watched the end of Othello, the movie, and we were given a short story assignment. I'm going to enjoy this!
Also, I was telling Linda about what to name my Elven Sorceress in my story. I thought, how about a name of a Greek Goddess? Artemis? No, it doesn't have the right feel. How about her Roman name? Diana? No, definitely not. Linda laughed and said I should name characters after Diane, Jasmine, Vivian, and all those other little girls. I was like, "Umm... no."
So, the Math Team meeting was pretty much nominal. We basically did a few problems for the sake of doing math. Then, we announced the captaincy (which Lei received, after much deliberation). Then, we started chatting randomly.
At one point, Linda was saying how I always go after the Freshmen. In Freshmen year, I went after Freshmen. In Sophomore year, I went after Freshmen. In Junior year, I went after Freshmen. In Senior Year, I'm still going after Freshmen. Mr. Yim says, "Is it because he thinks anyone who's not a Freshman is tainted?" Linda said, "No, I think it's because anyone who's not a Freshman, he's already had a year of going after them, and he's bored of them already.
I agreed.
Woohoo! I'm free! Free at last! Free at last! School's over for me. First period Math 78 is way too easy a class to be worried about. Second and fifth period Music and TA are slack-off classes. 4th period Chemistry AP and 6th period English AP are practically over. All that's left is 3rd period Econ.
So anyways, I've been working on my short story.
Dice Roll of the Day: 4 + 6 = 10
May the dice roll be with you!
Good Night!
Monday, May 12, 2003--Whoever has IP address 67.122.115.101 decided to vote 112 times on my mini-poll. That person obviously has no life. That person obviously has nothing better to do than to sit down and randomly vote 112 times on someone's mini-poll. I feel sorry for that person. Maybe they should go outside for some fresh air for once. Maybe they'll even see the sun for once. You know what would be even better? If they had the balls to insult me to my face rather than to hide in the background and stuff the ballot box while I'm looking. Whoever they are, they're an irritation, but only as irritating as a mosquito. I swat him away, and he's foolish to try to disrupt me.
Anyways, apparently, Ted Alper, one of the ARML coaches, is a "Pokemon Professor", which means that he passed a test and he can judge at tournaments. Apparently, he has a 10-year-old son.
So today, Franklin was sick, so I didn't have to drive him to school, so I went just before 2nd period. So many people were gone for the Bio AP test, including, but not limited to, Stacie and Stephie Shih.
3rd period...
In fourth period, I dueled Justin twice, once with my proxies, once without. With my proxies, I lost, but without my proxies, I won.
At lunch, Alan bought a Phyrexian Dreadnought and Kamahl, Fist of Krosa from Justin, then duelled Justin with his new green deck, and lost pathetically to Justin's Icy Manipulator/Royal Assassin combo.
After lunch, I went to take the Physics C AP test, both Mechanics
and Electromagnetics. Apparently, Electromagnetics was easier than Mechanics. Also, Christine Wu was there, but she only took the Mechanics. Apparently, while we people who were taking the whole test were out on a break, the people who took Mechanics only had to stay inside so that they wouldn't be able to tell us what was on the Free Response. What an interesting system. They were stranded there for a whole 5 minutes.
I think I fived the test. Yes, I like to verb stuff.
Anyways, at home, after attempting to study Chem AP (despite my mental exhaustion), I went to the SJYS rehearsal at Castellero. The soloist for Gerswhin's
Rhapsody in Blue showed up. He's got mad piano'ing skills, including cross-handed, overlap-handed, and fast fingers.
Must resist temptation... Memories... Temptation... Let go of me...
And now, I'm home.
Dice Roll of the Day: 5 + 1 = 6
*hums tune from
Rhapsody in Blue*
Good Night!
Sunday, May 11, 2003--You ever noticed how my Journal entries don't really have intros? Whoops! They do! This is an intro, as was the last one, but they aren't really intros. They're more like miscellaneous content that fits best at top. Really!
Anyways, today began with studying for Physics C AP. Then, I played Kingdom Hearts.
*KH*
I went back to the Hercules Coliseum and beat the first 3 of 5 part of the Hades Cup. At the 4th part, I had to leave for lunch at McDonald's.*KH*
I had to leave for lunch at McDonald's. Then, I went to the ARML practice. I'm now officially on the A team, and Ke is on the B team. Poor Stephanie, she's only on the C team, but she has the next 3 years to improve. She's one of the elite now, I made sure of it after she won a prize at the Stanford Math Tournament.
The Power Round broke down into us chatting because everyone who was talking had no proving ability. Eventually, we got everything proved fast enough, though. We had some very interesting conversations, like Paul going over his limit with his puns. "Metaphors be with you" is a divergence from his usually array of "quality puns", and about how, according to Paul, NASCAR racers are racist. That's why they race!
Because we finished early, we got to leave early. On my way out, I visited Stephanie, but she was still doing math, so she didn't notice me. I didn't try to get her attention either, so I left.
At home, I continued studying for the Physics C AP. That brings us here.
Tomorrow will be a good day, I know it will!
Dice Roll of the Day: 6 + 2 = 8
Ah, Good Night!
Saturday, May 10, 2003--That's strange... I got a post from "The Nadia and David Committee of People" in my guestbook. Well, I guess so... It's good to have expanded readership reflected in guestbooks! Plus, it's better than the guys who would post under "Anonymous" and write insulting messages.
At Chinese school we were listening to Jay Chou (sp?) for god knows what reason.
After school, I studied for the Physics C test, then played Kingdom Hearts.
*KH*
The gargoyle (which I do believe is from Fantasia) in the End of the World wasn't too difficult, but I needed to equip potions on my allies to survive and be more aggressive in my attacking.
I made it to the final boss, Ansem, at only Level 55. Apparently, I'm underleveled. I mean, I can beat his first form and Darkside, but I can't beat his second form, the 1v1. I need more Levels, apparently.*KH*
I've been thinking... maybe I need more substance in my Journals? Nah. My Journals have enough substance as is... my life as reflected in my mind and my reflections on my life. As you can see, I don't think about my life very often, except when I do, I more often than not don't post them.
Someone, analyze my life. Is it boring? Is it interesting? Is it something you'd read about? Well, if you're reading this, I'm sure it can't be all
that boring, even if you have nothing better to do and are bored out of your mind. Sure, it's a boring journal, but that's the stereotypical desensitized guy for you. I write something. I say that it was good or that it sucks. I move on to the next event. And every time I write something like this, I always call it a "tangent", implying that it's irrelevent to the Journal and out of the ordinary. Heh... what irony!
End tangent!
And so, we went to dinner with 3 other families, including but not limited to (okay, it
was limited to) Bernard's family, Jeffrey Ho's family, and Jasmine's family. Jasmine's still fretting over that Bio AP test, even though she got a nice, solid 76% on a practice. That's a nice, solid 5. (Well, as solid of a 5 as a 92% is a solid A.)
Then, our family went to Bernard's house, where Bernard, Franklin and I played 2 3-way MTG duels, Franklin using his Beast deck. (I used my Slivers and Bernard used his "Hand-Rape" deck.) I won the first one with my Slivers, overwhelming them with my Brood Sliver and my Sliver tokens. They both forfeit when I played my second Brood Sliver.
In the second duel, I was winning with my Coat of Arms and 5 Slivers (and 2 of them were Muscle Slivers, making my smallest Slivers 7/7), but before Bernard died, he destroyed enough of my Slivers so that I was weakened enough. I attacked Franklin, but he had a Lull up his sleeve, so I did no damage. Then, he counter attacked and utterly killed me. It was a come-back from behind, and both were virtually double-teaming me, because I had been winning, but you gotta expect that in a 3-way game. That's why the best player doesn't always win--double-teaming.
Then, Franklin pulled out a second deck (Counter/Control) and we played a 2v2, Bernard and I against Franklin controlling 2 decks. I got out my Toxin/Talon/Hunter combo really quickly and we were winning. Then, Franklin played Akroma's Vengeance, destroying everything. I played my Aphetto Dredging (I have a real one now, by the way) to bring back my Crystalline, Toxin, and Talon, but a few turns after I played them all, Franklin played a second Akroma's Vengeance and destroyed them all again. Then, when Bernard played Visara the Dreadful ("Visara? I thought she died." Bernard has two, and he didn't know the Legend rule.), Franklin Control Magic'ed it, and from there, we were lost. The whole game dragged out for 30 minutes until he got out his Connievore--I mean--Cognivore and wiped us out.
I watched Kellie watch "Naruto", a ninja anime. It's kind of interesting...
Dice Roll of the Day: 5 + 2 = 7
Ack! 7 again! What do I have to do now?
Anyways, that's all for tonight. I can't decide whether or not this is a long entry or a short entry--probably long--but I
can decide that it's a
finished entry.
Good Night!
Friday, May 9, 2003--When I got to school, I dueled Justin some. He decided to go against my proxy deck for once, and I beat him the first time. (Later that day, he lost to it again, then beat it twice. Still, it's a fairly powerful deck, that proxy Sliver deck of mine.)
In second period, we looked over the various covers that the... I don't know what class it was that designed out CD covers. Some looked good. Some looked pretty shitty. Everyone likes the title "Funky Pete's Phat Beatz", but I certainly don't. It sounds too silly, too frivolous to be put on a CD.
Third period...
Fourth period... slack-off day. This was when Justin and I dueled some more.
During lunch, I went to Math Club. Linda was "sick" today, so she didn't show. Claire was just being Claire. Thus, the Math Club meeting never happened.
Fifth period...
In sixth period, we watched Othello, the movie. It's kind of funny, because for the first 5 minutes, I kept jumping seats.
After school, Franklin borrowed my Sliver deck, but thanks to the sheer power of the other teams'... actually, I don't know what happened, but the team with 2 Sliver decks lost.
At home, there was a power out. Fortunately, the power came back on pretty quickly, so I played Kingdom Hearts.
*KH*
After reaching level 50, I finally beat Ansem/Riku. I think it was more of an issue of fatigue rather than level, because I beat him today, but it still seemed really tough.
On the second storyline visit to Hollow Bastion, I found the Oblivion. It's stronger than the Metal Chocobo and has almost as much range, but it criticals more often, so it's a superior keyblade, I think. I hope the Ultima Weapon is long-ranged, although I probably won't be able to get enough materia to Synthesize it.
Behemoth? Easy!
Thus, I made it to the End of the World and decided to call it a day.*KH*
So that brings me here, right now...
Dice Roll of the Day: 6 + 5 = 11
Oh, did I mention?
Dark Fiends Chapter 22 is finally up.
Nothing more to say.
Have a nice weekend!
Good Night!
Thursday, May 8, 2003--Everyone's gone for the Calculus AP Tests today... Yes, Calculus, that's what AP is all about. It's all about the Calculus. It's all about the Calculus.
Of course, it didn't affect me significantly, since my life isn't run by Calculus students, not that they are unimportant.
Anyways, in Math 78, we finally learned how to use a Laplace transform.
In second period, Mr. Peterson was telling us that we need to come up with a name for our class CD. I would have suggested "Dark Ritual", but that's a Magic card. Then, I suggested "Broken Headphones".
Third period... screw-around day.
Fourth period... screw-around day.
At lunch, I duelled Alan. He was too chicken to go up against my strong deck, so he settled on dueling against my weak deck. He still lost, although he brought me down to 1 Life. Actually, the bell rang right as I was about to declare my final attack to finish him off, but there was no way that he could have survived--he was tapped out and all my Slivers had protection from his red creatures.
Fifth period...
In sixth period, we read Antigone, who is the daughter and half-sister of Oedipus.
Heh, why are there so many slack-off days nowadays? It is because of AP testing?
Beware of Post AP Laziness Syndrome, or PALS for short!
Apparently, Stephanie hurt her eye a couple days ago. Yesterday, she came too school with an eyepatch over her... left eye, I think it was, and looked troubled. Today, she seems much better, though. The eyepatch came off.
Today's homework was very little or none. Thus, as a result, I ended up doing a little studying for my Physics C and Chemistry AP tests--as if I needed it!
Anyway, my mom cooked up some really interestingly tasty stuff for dinner today. It was tasty. Today's Simpsons included the Homer buying a pony for Lisa episode and the Homer becoming a cannonball belly, the latter of which I didn't watch.
Anyways...
Dice Roll of the Day: 1 + 5 = 6
Not bad. Not bad at all.
No time for witty cloture tonight. I'll just say Good Night!
Wednesday, May 7, 2003--Some dork with the IP address 143.254.72.145 voted 7 times in a row on my mini-poll, saying that he does
not want to vote. What irony! Naturally, I deleted all his votes and banned him from my poll. I don't know who he is, so from now on, he'll be referred to only as
Idiot #3.
Now other than that, Justin fears my proxy Sliver deck, because he knows he's gonna get creamed by it. That's why he refuses to play against it.
Second period...
Third period...
Fourth period...
At lunch, we interviewed Lei and Stephanie, and I was there for both of them. It's kind of interesting. Lei and Stephanie were polar opposites on one major policy. Lei was saying we should let anyone attend practices, and just pick the best/most devoted handful for a team. Stephanie was saying how we should set a devotion limit so only the most devoted can be a part of the math team, and that we need more "rigorous" math practices so the team can train for math competitions. I think they'll make good captains next year... Of course, I really can't make that judgement because I wasn't there for Joanna yesterday.
After lunch was the Music Theory AP test. It was much easier than I had expected, probably because I was psychologically prepared this time. Listening multiple choice--I think I got most of them. Non-listening multiple-choice--I think I got almost all of them. Dictation--The melodic ones were perfect, but I'm a little unsure on the harmonic ones. Part-writing--easy! Composition--even easier! Sight-singing--the easiest part of all!
By the time I got home, I had to leave immediately for Viola lessons.
Afterwards, I played a quick duel with my brother in which he only got 4 mana (and therefore was 1 mana short of using his control magics). However, I had to worry about that Dreamborn Muse. That muse alone destroyed half my deck in a matter of turns. Fortunately, I was able to get out a Hunter and a Toxin pretty quickly and I wiped the thing out. Then, I used Aphetto Dredging to bring back an Essence and two Muscles, and from there, Franklin was lost.
My Sliver deck isn't invincible yet, though. It's still highly susceptible to counter decks, burn decks, and, to a certain extent, control decks. Flying is only a minor problem, but as soon as I get out a Hunter and a Toxin, they're wiped out.
Simpson's today were the Krusty's father episode and the Bobo episode, the latter of which I didn't watch because I had better things to do.
Those things include updating my website...
Dice Roll of the Day: 4 + 3 = 7
'Tis a good day, today, but not to die...
Good Day--I mean--Good Night!
Tuesday, May 6, 2003--Today was the Math 78 quiz. I aced it in 15 minutes. It was so easy.
Then, I had to make photocopies of the stock writeup for Econ. However, due to a tactical mistake on my part, I failed to realize that AP Testing in the Library would close the Library and keep me from making those photocopies, so we had no photocopies for Econ class today. Oh, well... We'll just give them those photocopies we owe them tomorrow.
Second period...
Third period... This was Econ class, by the way.
In fourth period, Mr. Roske was gone, we had a sub, and he gave us a worksheet, although we mainly fooled around in class.
At lunch, I bought the compatibility test results. It costed me 8 quarters! Anyways, apparently, I match very well with Vivian Chu. Mark got Linda Fang as #7. Alan and Andrew got Linda Fang as #1. Right...
Fifth period...
In 6th period, we started reading
Oedipus Rex. Wait... is Antigone Oedipus's sister or daughter?
After school, I played basketballs with the guys... and Linda and Joanna, whom I have to list separately because they aren't guys. I sucked. Then, at one point, as Joanna tried to catch a ball, it bounced off her hands, and I said, "Wow! You're almost as pathetic as I am!"
After the basketball playing, Justin was telling us a story...
Justin: So at CYS camp one summer, since the weather was really hot, I said to Christine Lin, "Aren't you hot?" I meant temperature-wise, but apparently she misunderstood me and thought I meant hot in the other way, so she was like, "...no."
Ke: That probably means she doesn't have any confidence in her own looks.
Justin: So anyways, at first I didn't realize the implications of what I said, and then after five minutes I figured it out, and I was like, "Oh!"
*insert funny look here*
Me: Interesting... Let's try that on Joanna. Hey, Joanna? Are you hot?
Joanna: Uhh... after listening to you guys talk about it, I don't know how to answer that question. Well, I'm sweating!
Me: Yes, and I'm burning.
Enter Linda.
Justin: Hey, Linda! Are you hot?
Linda:
(angrily) No, Justin, I am not!
Right...
Today, we were interviewing Joanna for the captaincy next year, but I had to leave before it began so I could go to a dentist's appointment.
Anyways, my watch works again. I got the battery replaced last sunday so that I could have a working for the AP tests.
You want to know something funny? The Sliver Overlord isn't even released yet (Scourge release date = May 26, 2003) and I've
already constructed a deck around it. It's designed to be a fast, but powerful Sliver deck, relying on the Sliver Overlord and the Toxin Sliver, plus a Sliver Queen thrown in for flavor.
Anyways...
Dice Roll of the Day: 5 + 6 = 11
After that is utter blankness...
It's a white blankness, though, which symbolizes hope... either that or racism. Whatever.
Good Night!
Actually, it's a black blankness with colorful stars!
Monday, May 5, 2003--Today was the AP English Literature & Composition test. The multiple choice section was really easy. It always is. Now, the essays are where I had a problem, but I consistently get 6's on the practice essays, even when I have a bad time and do some really shitty writing, so I should probably get a low 5.
After the AP test was lunch... there was nothing memorable that happened at lunch... because I don't remember.
Fifth period...
In sixth period, we ate pizza and did pretty much nothing. Since (as the optimist would put it) the room was half-full, I decided to go talk to Tiffany Wang, even though I hadn't in a ridiculously long amount of time.
After school, in the Music Theory class, we practiced dictation and sight-singing. Why did this Music Theory AP Test have to include so much listening? Why couldn't it include more theoretical Music Theory. The test is on Wednesday...
After taking a nap at home, I went to the SJYS rehearsal. It sucked. It wasn't really a rehearsal, but a 2.5 hour sectional.
Alan sent an e-mail with parody MTG cards from the new "Rapage" set (with a new mechanic called Rape), but since this is kind of questionable material, I'm considering not posting it up here, unless I get a lot of protest and enough people who want to see them...
Anyway, I also converted my Sliver deck into a 2-in-1 Sliver deck. I have proxies on top, and if I'm playing in an anti-proxy environment, all I have to do is ignore the white slips of paper.
My proxy deck is very powerful, too. More often than not, if I get out the Toxin Sliver, I have a good chance of winning.
What would make my deck stronger, though, is the Sliver Overlord. That way, I don't clog up my deck by putting multiple copies of Slivers I really only need
one copy of.
Anyways...
Dice Roll of the Day: 3 + 6 = 9
Overwhelming... that's what life is. Yet, in the surprises that life holds for you, for every bad surprise you find, you'll find a good two.
Good Night!
Sunday, May 4, 2003--Woohoo! The Geocities problem has healed itself!
In the meantime, here I am, reviewing for English AP. How tedious.
On a partially related note, I finished
Catch-22 last night. It has a nice ending, considering that its a book and not a movie or a video game. I whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading and is sick of the usual stuff we have to read for English class.
After lunch at Taste of China, I went to the ARML practice. Steph Yaung and I came to the conclusion that I pay too much attention to Joanna.
Me: Hey, is that Joanna out there? *gets up, goes out side to meet Joanna, finds that she's not there, looks for her for another minute or two, then comes back in* Nope, it wasn't Joanna. Probably just a figment of my imagination.
Steph: Really? I could have sworn I saw her two. She was wearing that same blue jacket she always wears. Maybe I saw wrong. Maybe it was just someone who looked like Joanna.
Me: Or maybe she passed right on by because she got lost.
Time passes...
Steph: Dwayne. It's Joanna right outside, right there.
Me: Really? *gets up, goes outside, and finds Joanna* Hi, Joanna. I could have sworn I saw you earlier, but then I came out and couldn't find you anywhere.
Joanna: Yeah, that's because I had to go back and find my parents.
Ted Alper begins talking. I quickly bring Joanna inside. After the Individual Round practice, there is a break, and during that break...
Me: Where did Joanna go?
Steph: Probably to the bathroom.
Me: I see... I pay too much attention to Joanna, don't I?
Steph: Possibly.
Me: I'm sorry.
It turns out Joanna won't be going to the ARML this year. I didn't argue against her (or her parents). After all, to be in SFBA-ARML for more than 3 years would throw off the practices (because they repeat every three years), so the best time to start would be Sophomore year, like I did, unless you want to have an easy time during your fourth year, but I personally think that's illegitimate.
Later, at home, talking to Stephanie over AIM...
Me: You say that I pay too much attention to Joanna? Does that mean I don't pay enough attention to
you, or simply that I don't pay enough attention to Joanna?
Steph: I dunno.
Me: You don't know? Do you ever feel like I'm neglecting you?
Steph: No, not at all.
Me: Then, it
isn't that I don't pay enough attention to you.
Steph: Yeah. I guess it's just that you pay too much attention to Joanna.
Later...
Me: I just realized... I
don't pay enough attention to you. Remember how before Stanford, I didn't really pay attention to you, and then you won something at Stanford. Or would that be I
didn't pay enough attention to you?
Steph: Didn't.
Actually, I really
should pay more attention to these 9th-graders. After this year, I'll be gone and I'll never see them ever again. Hopefully, that's not true, though.
Anyways, after all this, after dinner, after an episode of the Simpson's that never aired (or it did, but that I missed it), I went online and did stuff... or rather, I
returned online. It's kind of strange the things I can remember. Stephanie logged off to go to dinner at 7:30. Right now, it's 9:20, and she's still away. I only remember this because at the end of our conversation before she went to dinner, I said I was going to watch the Simpsons, but it wasn't on because my brother had misinformed me that the Simpsons were on at 7:30. Oh, well.
Dice Roll of the Day: 5 + 6 = 11
Tomorrow is the English AP test. Wish me luck!
Tired... so... tired...
Wish you were here to see me...
*teardrop*
Good Night!
Saturday, May 3, 2003--Funny... we spent the first half-hour in Chinese School deciding where to eat for our Chinese School Graduation party. Stephanie then suggested that we go eat at the Korean BBQ, but when it came time to vote, not even she voted for her own suggestion.
After a quick dinner at KFC, I came home and spoke online to Joanna and another Stephanie. Then, I read some more
Catch-22.
Later, my mom took me to Costco to get my picture taken for SJYS... I'm not sure on the details, though. Coming home, I ate some burgers from McDonald's for dinner.
Then, I played Kingdom Hearts.
*KH*
I beat Maleficent's dragon form, but it took me 2 tries. On the second try, I equipped everyone with potions, and I ended up using up all of them.
Riku/Ansem was a tough boss fight. I fought him 5 times and died on all 5 of them. He's damn tough, probably because it's a one on one and I don't have my allies to distract him for me. I almost beat him once, though...
I decided to go level up some more before I tried a sixth time, so I went back to the Coliseum. I finished Pegasus Cup with Time Limit and I beat Hercules Cup Solo. I couldn't beat Hercules Cup Time Limit, though, because Hercules used his charging attack that he never uses and I got hit, and he uses it so fast that I didn't have enough time to heal before I got hit again. Then, I went back to Hollow Bastion. Good experience there.*KH*
After that was this... as in working on my website again.
Ehhh...
Dice Roll of the Day: 6 + 4 = 10
Joanna and Lei are now going to the ARML. The Leland Coalition has expanded to 6. Whee!
*looks at watch* It's still broken, but I know that it's a Good Night!
Friday, May 2, 2003--Stupid Mark. He told me that testing ended at 10:30 when it actually ended at 10:20, so I missed it.
Justin: What did you miss?
Me: Everything!
Justin: What specifically?
Me: Everything!
Justin: No, other than that?
Me: Not nothing!
It was all rectified later.
In the meantime, here's a bad math pun that I came up with last Sunday. "If rhombify means to make like a rhombus, how do you say to make like a rectangle?"
On an psuedo-related note, woohoo! Geocities works now! Although by the time you read this, it'll likely to have
stopped working.
Second period...
Third period...
Lunch was after
third period today. During that time, I dueled Denis. He says I'm the only one brave enough to duel him because he has one hella powerful deck. Because of all his mana artifacts, he can get out mana
hella fast. I'm lucky to even play a creature, but then, it's useless, because he just plays Wildfire, and I lose my creatures
and my land. He took 6 damage, but that was only from his non-basic lands. In the end, he was like "Dwayne, do you want to end this now?" And I said, "Yes, please," so he Fireballed me for 40 damage. Ryan's got the record for 52, though.
Fourth period...
Fifth period...
Sixth period...
After school, I came home and played Kingdom Hearts.
*KH*
I beat Hercules today. I think the Metal Chocobo made the difference. It's a powerful and has extra-long range. Then, I beat the Pegasus Cup (2nd Tournament) solo in one try. The only enemies I had trouble with were Leon (Squall) and Yuffie, but I managed to beat them. The timed version I failed because I was too slow. Apparently, it takes over a minute to beat Leon and Yuffie.
I then ventured to Hollow Bastion. I think that and the final dungeon are the only two worlds that are pure dungeons, no real side-quests. Heh, for about 10 minutes, I had to run from every battle because I lost my keyblade (as part of the storyline) and was utterly defenseless, and Goofy and Donald left me, and Beast is very unreliable. (He keeps falling off the edge, it seems.) But after I got back my Keyblade and Goofy and Donald, it was a lot easier. Hollow Bastion is such a huge place, it's fun to explore, and I explored everything. Then I fought Maleficent, who was easy, but I hear her dragon form is incredibly hard. I'm at high levels, though, because I never back down from a fight (and I never purposely get into fights for the sake of leveling up, either). I haven't fought Dragon Maleficent yet, though.*KH*
After Kingdom Hearts, I read more of
Catch-22. Then, I ate dinner, watched the Simpsons (Sherry Bobbins episode and the Lisa has a crush on Nelson Episode were on today...), and then I came online, where I talked to Joanna, updated my webpage, and other stuff like that.
Boy, am I sure glad that it's the weekend...
Dice Roll of the Day: 4 + 5 = 9
I'm happy...
I hope you're happy, too. Good Night!
Thursday, May 1, 2003--Holy Hell! It's May already? Yeah, I didn't realize that the month had changed until my mom gave me some forms to sign and they were dated May 1st. Whoops!
Math 78 is... as usual. No need for an explanation here.
Then, I dueled Ryan 3 times. In the first game, Ryan had bad mana flow, so I survived early game. Then, I was able to achieve a Sliver Queen rush, which is
much easier using Riptide Shapeshifters. In 5 turns, I had mana to play the Shapeshifter, but I chose instead to play the Ward Sliver--very important. On the 6th turn, I played the Shapeshifter, and on the 7th turn, I sacked it for the Queen and used my mana (in conjunction with a Heartstone already in play) to bring out Sliver tokens. Ryan could not compete with my tokens, nor with the sheer size of the Sliver Queen. During the second game, I don't know why, but I overran Ryan with my Slivers... overran as in I had lots of them and he had no creatures... in his deck... at all! During the third game, though, he beat me. Yes, those burns are powerful, but now, I can get out Slivers faster than ever.
I also played a couple team games. I don't remember the outcome, but I left just before the end of testing to catch up with someone that I hadn't seen since Monday...
I think during first period, I duelled again, but I don't remember the details.
Second period...
At lunch, we played a 3v3 duel in Woo's room, me, Denis (with his newly acquired Championship deck, which he bought only to get Cursed Scrolls for cheap), and Ryan against Alan, Jon, and Justin. I was able to get out my Essence Sliver out pretty quickly, and there was a lot of dancing involved with Ward Slivers and the Crystalline Sliver (which I have lovingly nicknamed Christine Sliver). However, by the time the bell rang, the score was 39 to 76. Chances are, we would have won if the game continued, but then again, Denis's Championship deck isn't good for multiplayer.
Speaking of cursed scrolls, during our game yesterday, Denis says, "I use Cursed Scroll's ability. I name Ruby Medallion, since it's the only card in my hand, you
have to pick it, so I bury the Muscle Sliver." Heh.
3rd period, I gave my Current Event on Windows and Linux. It's not that I hate Linux, but Linux just can't compete in the same market as Windows. First of all, Windows has the software support, which attracts customers. Then, Window's consumer base makes it profitable for software developers to develop software for Windows, and this endless cycle locks Linux, Apple, and any other competitor out. Second, since Linux is free, no corporate would waste their time, effort, and money on refining and promoting Linux to something that could compete in the mainstream market. Third, since Linux is so hard to use, most customers would be repelled by it.
See, that's why Apple does so much better than Linux. It's not free and it's not difficult to use. There are no flaws in and of Apple computers themselves--only that the vicious cycle of Microsoft's business strength locks them out. Alan would now point out that Microsoft sucks because of their business tactics (which are actually pretty powerful), but Windows is a good program. Many complain that Windows is "buggy", but I never seem to notice it. More often than not, a computer crash is caused by MSIE (which does indeed suck compared Netscape) or when I overload the computer's CPU or memory. Even so, these crashes happen so rarely that it doesn't give a lasting impression. Bugs in Microsoft programs (other than MSIE) are also very rare, and when I do happen to encounter one, it's normally fixed by closing the program via Ctrl-Alt-Delete and restarting it. No, Windows isn't as bad as some make it out to be. Plus, if you want to use a Mac, you sacrifice a lot of things, including good games, programs, and high-quality software developer environments.
That brings me to my next tangent topic--Java. Many say that Java sucks because it doesn't run on Windows 2000 or Windows XP. I completely disagree. 2000 and XP suck because they don't support Java. Actually, they
do support Java, but you have to have Netscape 6 or higher in order for it to work. You see, Microsoft's trying to kill Java because they really are evil. (That, incidentally, is the one thing I hate about Microsoft, other than MSIE, of course.)
As for Netscape, many say that Netscape sucks because there are so many internet features it doesn't support. Well, those "features" that Netscape doesn't support aren't true internet features, but little toys designed by Microsoft that work only on MSIE so that they can claim that Netscape is obselete and attract people use MSIE. No, it's not that Netscape doesn't support some internet features, it's that there are people on the internet who go out of their way to put MSIE features on their website because Microsoft has bought them out to get them to support MSIE. At one point, I boycotted all websites that didn't support Netscape. Plus, Netscape never crashes, and whenever Netscape produces a pop-up, it replaces an older pop-up, so Netscape can't spawn multiple pop-ups. This contrasts with MSIE, which can spawn pop-ups so fast that it's pissed me off.
Lastly, Netscape (at least Netscape 6 and higher) have one thing that MSIE doesn't have, the
real Java. The Java you get on MSIE is just a cheap imitation. I hated it, because the majority of people use MSIE and there were some features that didn't work in MS-Java (aka, counterfeit Java).
Of course, I don't hate MSIE enough that it would be worth my time and effort to download Netscape on my new comp. However, at one point, when i was using the older MSIE, it
was that bad, which is why I originally switched to Netscape on the other comp. Using the older MSIE for some reason caused all of my webpages take 50 times as much time to load than it did on Netscape, ie, a 2 second load suddenly took over a minute. Naturally, this
was annoying. However, soon afterwards, I have no idea how, MSIE somehow leeched an upgrade from Netscape and fixed itself. Freaky!
So, in principle, I support Netscape. In practicality, I use MSIE, but I still hate it. Alan calls it MFID, Macro-Fucking Internet Destroyer, and I'm inclined to agree. Well, that's just my opinion, but (to quote Alvin or whoever the fuck always used this ending) then again, I'm probably right.
End computer software tangent.
4th period, Justin, Alex, Jason, and I had a very long and twisted discussion, because they wouldn't believe that 0.999... (infinitely repeating 9's) is equal to one. (There are 2 ways to prove it, the traditional way, and my way, which is shorter, cuter, and more elegent.) (No, not
approaching 1, but = 1. Calculus limits are bullshit because they assume that infinite can never be reached, but it can, in theory.)
Then, the discussion shifted to infinite and how it can be quantified, as in there are different levels of infinite. For example, let's say that I had an infinite number of pencils, and that you had 2 pencils for every pencil I had. Therefore, your number of pencils would be twice as infinite as my number of pencils. Now, let's say I had an infinite number of pencils and you had an infinite number of pencils for
every pencil I had. Now, you have an infinite number of pencils that's infinitely more infinite than my infinite number of pencils, or an "infinite^2", so to speak. There's a branch of mathematics devoted to this, and the different levels of infinite have different "aleph" numbers. It's not something I just pulled out of my ass. It's true and generally accepted by studiers of higher mathematics.
Then, we briefly touched on Quantum Physics (one theory in which basically says that if we don't have enough information to predict a certain event, then it must be random", which in my opinion is scientists' arrogance, because they want to believe that everything is either known or unknowable, and there is nothing that's too simply too complex to know practically. My replacement for that theory is basically that there are somethings that are just too complex to be predicted, that
could be predicted in theory but are so complicated that it would not be practical. It is these complications that makes things appear random, but nothing is truly random.
Then, we started talking about Relativity. I have an elegant proof that proves that either (1) relativity is pure bullshit or (2) relativity is not taught correctly by anyone, not even Dr. Goodstein. I dare you to prove me wrong! No, actually, it's impossible to disprove that remark. The more you try to disprove it, the more you end up proving #2.
Then, somehow, we started talking about Star Trek and warp speed and about moving at a speed so infinitely fast that you could be at every point in space simultaneously. Justin pointed out that it would be impossible to maintain that speed for any amount of time > 0, because as soon as you reach that speed 0 seconds later (or an instant later), you would run out of universe in which to move around, unless the universe was infinitely bigger than your infinite speed.
Then, we started discussing the only controversial part of our conversation, whether or not the Universe is open (infinite and doomed to a final and depressing death) or closed (non-infinite and blessed with rebirth). I prefer closed, because I am an optimist, and I'd prefer to believe that existence will continue to exist after the end of our Universe and into the beginning of the next.
At that point, the room suddenly quiets down and Mr. Roske joins the conversations. He says, "You keep saying that it
is or it
isn't, as if you're talking in absolutes." Justin then says, "Okay, according to one theory..."
Another memorable quote: "
Existence does not exist outside of the universe."
Very interesting, yes...
Fifth period...
Sixth period, I am an existentialist gamer. If it exists in the game, that's meaningful in itself. There must be
some use for this thing that everyone else says sucks.
After school, I played a 4-way FFA against Nick, Jon, and some guy I don't know. At one point, Jon casts this spell that removed my Sliver Queen from the game, but I gained some badly needed 7 life. I didn't know whether to hate him or thank him. Eventually, though, I lost to Nick, even though I put up a good fight. Eventually, he was forced to use Laquatus' Champion to kill me. "You know, I didn't want to do this, but you leave me no choice." I die.
Fast forward through the nothing done at home...
Yeah, that's basically it. Geocities is
still non-functional...
Dice Roll of the Day: 6 + 3 = 9
Life is good. Who says she hates me? I approached her today, and she's the one who started the conversation that ended up going on so long I ended up walking her to her next class. Then again, it
was a short walk, but it was a longer conversation than a blurb. So I guess overall, life is good.
As is the night... Good Night!
