So 2020 was a bust, as was most of 2021.
I lost a lot of productivity, both at work and at home, both in my obligations and in my hobbies. At first I thought it was because I was running 2 Dungeons & Dragons games, but that quickly turned into 1 D&D, and I think I spent like a couple hours a week prepping for that D&D game and that was it. Then, I thought it was because I was playing a lot of Final Fantasy 14, but outside of Raid Nights, I actually don’t play that much FF14 anymore.
Then I realized the truth. Without hard schedule points, I was getting stuck in a loop of endless procrastination.
So I decided to try something new. I bought a planner. I’m a planner person now. By scheduling what I want to do and when, it helps me keep moving forward and getting stuff done, instead of just procrastinating all the time. Already, it’s made a difference. I’ve cleaned the house, I’ve gotten my hobbies back in order, I even managed to write this blog post. We’ll see if I can keep up this momentum going into the next few months.
Combining this with Habitica and New Years Resolutions (both of which worked for me in the past), I think I can get my life back in order again. But the year is already almost 8 months gone, so I guess this is Old Years Resolutions.
2020 Old Year Resolutions
Resolution #1: Discover New Music – Like last year, I want to try listening to new music to see if I find anything I like that’s not just Black Sabbath and Metallica. So far it’s working. I discovered Diamond Head. (I mean, I knew about them from Am I Evil, but turns out the rest of the album is good too.) In the next 5 months, I want to try 5 more bands. Currently listening to some Slayer.
Resolution #2: Reading List – I’ve fallen behind on my reading list. I think I can get 2 books done by the end of the year. I’ve chosen Mistborn book 3 and Diamond Age.
Resolution #3: Cook More – I’ve fallen behind on the cooking in the last year. I should cook more. I hope to cook 3 new dishes before the end of the year, and also blog about them.
Resolution #4: Upload a New Piano Video – I really should.
Also, aspirational goals, but I’d like to get at least 8 workout days a month and at most 6 cheat days a month.
And there’s that. Hopefully by posting this, it’ll keep me accountable and help me actually keep to my goals. Otherwise, I guess I owe somebody steak dinner again.
