Monday, October 13, 2014 – I’ve made a lot of chocolate chip cookies in my lifetime. (Well, mostly in the last 6 years.) But I’ve never made peanut butter cookies before. But then my friend [redacted] asked me to bake peanut butter cookies for her birthday. So I thought, what the heck, why not?
Adventures With Browned Butter
Sunday, September 14, 2014 – When I first started learning how to bake, I learned that you should never melt the butter, that if you’re using butter, the creaming method is king.
Since then, a few of my coworkers and a few of my friends have mentioned melting the butter. One of my friends even mentioned browned butter. (Nope, it’s just brown sugar.) Serious Eats famous cookie article (the one that I’ve been linked to by 4 different people) swears by browned butter. So I decided to finally give it a try.
Mid-Autumn Festival Dinner Party 2014
Saturday, September 6, 2014 – So the Mid-Autumn Festival, also called the Mooncake Festival, is actually on Monday. But Monday is, for some reason, a terrible day for dinner parties. So I through a dinner party on Saturday instead.
Mom’s Secret Potato Salad
Saturday, August 16, 2014 – So one of my mother’s most popular recipes is her secret potato salad recipe. (I call it a secret recipe, but if you’ve ever eaten it, you’ll realize it’s not so secret.) So I figure I’d prolly learn it and keep the family recipe going.
Post-PAX Pokemon League 2014 Writeup
I was there when Andrei co-started the PAX Pokemon League. I was there when we painted almost 700 eggs for PAX East Easter Egg Edition. Last year, I was a PPL Gym Leader for the first time (as a Poison Pokemon Punk). This year, I became Dipper Pines from Gravity Falls.
I’ve decided to share with everyone day-by-day thoughts and reflections on my PPL experience, as posted on Facebook, partly for your enjoyment, partly to get some feedback, but mostly just because I like writing things.
Taiwanese-Style Soy-Braised Pork
Saturday, August 2, 2014 – So the Mid-Autumn Festival is coming up again, and of course, I want to do another dinner party. But what do I make?
On a completely unrelated note, about a month ago, my friend Abhi asks me if I’ve done any “soy-boiled pork”. To which I respond, “I haven’t done it recently, but know that I’ve taken cooking classes, I can make it better before.”
Hmm… I wonder where I’m going with this…
July 2014 Cooking Double Feature
So as I may have alluded to earlier, I’m in California visiting some friends and family. And like I said before, I would cook for my family and friends.
June 2014: Appetizer Month
So I’m a bit late to this, what with it being July and all. But I decided June was appetizer month. I was gonna learn how to make a few appetizers so I could bring some to the July 4 party later this year, and cook up the rest as part of a meal for my family when I visited them in California.
Let’s start in chronological order…
Why The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was so amazing
It’s hard to talk about Spider-Man 2 without a ton of spoilers. Which is why I’ve waited so long to talk about it. But it’s been over a month since the movie came out, so I have to assume that everyone who cares about this film has seen it already. So I’m going to talk about why this movie surpassed my already high expectations for this movie. With a ton of spoilers. After the cut.
Korean Dinner
Saturday, May 17, 2014 – My friend Vinni wanted to do a cooking party. So we did. Somehow, we decided we wanted to make bulgogi, so we ended up making a Korean dinner.
