So as I may have alluded to earlier, I’m in California visiting some friends and family. And like I said before, I would cook for my family and friends.
June 2014: Appetizer Month
So I’m a bit late to this, what with it being July and all. But I decided June was appetizer month. I was gonna learn how to make a few appetizers so I could bring some to the July 4 party later this year, and cook up the rest as part of a meal for my family when I visited them in California.
Let’s start in chronological order…
Korean Dinner
Saturday, May 17, 2014 – My friend Vinni wanted to do a cooking party. So we did. Somehow, we decided we wanted to make bulgogi, so we ended up making a Korean dinner.
Cinco de Mayo 2014
Mexican Dinner, Practice Run
April 5-6, 2014 – Some backstory: My friends know I’m really into cooking, that I’m a chocoholic, and that I frequently combine strange flavors. (The famous example being the burger with chocolate sauce. But that’s a story for another day.) At least 2 different friends indepdendently told me I should check out mole and learn how to make mole. (The Mexican food, not the furry animal.) So I did.
Dwayne Cooks Dinner, March 2014 Edition
Saturday, March 1, 2014 – Photos of food are great and all, but it’s even better if people can actually eat my food. So I threw another dinner party for my friends.
Chicken Stock, Teriyaki, Turnip Cake, and Dumplings
Saturday, February 15, 2014 – So two things. One, I wanted to make chicken stock, because it’s oh so useful for making soups and sauces and stuff. Two, my friend Tina wanted to hang out, and she likes cooking too. So we have a guest chef today!
Eggs Benedict
Saturday, January 11, 2014 – After my whole “Merry Eggs-mas and Happy Hollandaise” pun card, I decided it was time to learn how to make my own eggs benedict. Plus, I learned how to make both Hollandaise sauce and poached eggs in cooking class, so eggs benedict was a natural extension.
New Years Dinner with the Family 2014
Like I said in my New Years Resolutions, I was going to start cooking for the family every time I visit them. This starts now. (Actually, it started last July.) After sending the menu to my mother, we settled on the tomato pesto fettuccine with seared steak.
Dinner with the Family, Holidays 2013
It hasn’t actually happened yet, but I’m using this post to brainstorm ideas and figure out what I want to make, and to record these thoughts for posterity.
