December 2015: Cooking In California

It might be more accurate to call this Cooking For California, since the story starts in Seattle, as I try out a few new recipes and practice a few old ones.

Specifically, one of my friends specifically requested deep-fried stuffed jalapeno for our traditional New Years Eve party. (Which she calls “jalapeno poppers”, and I lovingly misinterpreted as “jalapeno popplers“.

Not only that, but it’s tradition for my to cook dinner for my family every time I visit, a tradition that was broken once only because… well, you know… And between my Chef Watson stuff and my Ingredient Challenges, I had a lot of new material I wanted to try on real people. (I ended up going with some Chef Watson winners for my family dinner.)

June 2015: Cooking Adventures

So the original plan was to cook fried chicken wings for the traditional July 4 party, and also to cook omelets for my family for July 4 breakfast (which would have happened on July 3). That of course didn’t pan out, because my cat sitter lost Missy. But I figured I’d post pics from my practice runs and write up my notes and thoughts.

Deep-Fried Fish

Monday, December 9, 2013 – This week’s episode of cooking class was about fish. Incidentally, all the classes about cooking techniques were front-loaded. Most of the later classes are about ingredients. So I was trying to find a fish dish that I could do to learn a new cooking technique. So I decided it was time to deep fry something.
